Going back to where we came from

The Lunch family yesterday closed on a purchase of new digs in Queens, about 3 miles northeast of the Brooklyn joint we'd been in for 15 years.

Good: More space! Parking! Close to subway! Economical if we do it right!

Scary: Needs a ton of work! Super expensive! Will become a landlord! Don't know shit about any of those things!

Took us about 2 years to find the combo of conditions/affordability, another 6 months to orchestrate the sale of our place and the acquisition of the new one, which we pulled off yesterday

Congrats! So when are you inviting the whole forum over for a housebreaking bash? Or if that's too big a party for you, then what about just the Mets/49ers fan club?

~10 blocks south of Singlecut

If we had a housewarming party with the condition of the back now deck you'd all be suing us for injuries. But once we get that fixed, come on over

Put a Bruce Lee poster on your wall and that will be my representation. The landlord part .... You need a brewery closer to you.

Landlording isn't bad at all. I hung on to my condo in Jersey when I moved to Cleveland, and I'm now renting it out.

Just accept that you'll have to pay people to fix stuff. You get to deduct it from your taxes, and in the end, you come out way ahead.

Ah, but you are an absentee landlord. Glad you're coming out ahead.

Many mazels, brah!

When do you think you might get done with the work on the rental unit? I might have someone for you, depending on the specs.

You are a landlord in New Jersey not New York City, there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE.

I pray for lunchbucket that you either know what you are getting into or luck out with good tenants because NYC is an absolute mess. A friend of mine who owns there - a small multi-family building (6 or 8 units) - went through a 2 1/2 year court battle to boot someone - and the guy didn't even have any valid legal arguments he could make that he was "in the right" - just a series of requests for more time for reasons that were entirely his own fault.
