Trump's latest war

Double Switch
Nov 27 2019 02:19 PM

Besides the daily war he wages with his alleged hair, now, it seems those "many people" he listens to (exclusively) tell him those detestable "lefties" want to obliterate Thanksgiving, or at least change the name. First I've heard of this, in spite of being an ardent lefty, and wouldn't that mess with my plans for tomorrow? I include the resident "righties/Trump apologists" in this query to determine if you got this memo.

So, if there are any fellow lefties here, have you heard about this and what would you suggest we change our national secular holiday's name to? I have nothing. I like it the way it is, but do believe sometime during my life we did it on the 3rd Thursday of November because it landed quite often on my father's and one of my first cousin's birthday of 11/24. We always thought it was cool to have both pumpkin pie and birthday cake. But lately, and considering ol' dad has been out of the picture for about 25 years (and my first cousin now lives in some hoity place in Europe), I notice it never happens anymore. Does anyone of geezer status recall this?

But back to the topic: if Trumpie is such a war monger, why didn't he go to 'nam? (rhetorical - pleeeeeeeze don't bother to answer (ya just gotta know when not to answer a rhetorical question and curb yourself)).

So - war on Thanksgiving? Would you participate? I believe it's just one more way he causes internal strife and division. How many folks get shot or knifed during dinner on Thursday? I'm presuming more than a few.

Never heard of a war on Thanksgiving, but 11/24 would be the fourth Thursday of November if it were a Thursday, and so would be Thanksgiving proper.

Thanksgiving was officially designated as the fourth Thursday in November by Abraham Lincoln in 1863. So unless you're really old...…

The War on Thanksgiving will be me fighting to bite my tongue in front of my sister-in-law's Trump-loving parents. They apologized for voting for him last year, but I've detected some slippage this year and am concerned that cranberry sauce may be spilled.

Here's one war that began on Thanksgiving that I know about.

I know, right!!?? I have looked this up over and over again and cannot find proof of my undoubtedly fractured memory. In 2020, it will be really close, though - 11/24 will be on the 4th Tuesday.

Isn't it sad that Trump lovers can't take the hint and drop their obsession if just for a day? Lucky for me, tomorrow we will have a like-minded crew who will talk about football, college hoops, the baseball off season and no one - NO ONE - will bring up politics. How hard is that?

Fortunately we're all Met fans so we can talk about Jeremy Hefner as a distraction.

Apparently Don Donald is under the impression that, having already "saved" Christmas by driving the nation back towards saying 'Merry Christmas' again rather than the commie/secular 'Happy Holidays', he's

now conjured up the idea that the word Thanksgiving is also under assault as the standard greeting so reversing this blasphemous trend has now become his new target/obsession/tweet-o-t-D. That he has

effectively made up a problem in order to eventually claim an evidence-less claim of victory should come as a surprise to no one anymore than the idea that he actually gave a rat's ass about any of these

supposed problems until realizing that they'd be red meat issues for the voters he hoped to woo.

Actually, I think Thanksgiving was originally the last Thursday of November, but got changed to the fourth Thursday around the time of FDR, because on the rare months when November has five Thursdays, it left too few shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The same to you and yours, Kase.

As for November 24th it is my daughter's birthday (she was 50 this year), and since we get together at our house every year for Thanksgiving, we give her b'day presents on that day.

The presents will be a few days late this year.

Same as my late father and long-time-no-see first cousin. Popular day!

Gonna watch King Kong with my son in the morning, then have Thanksgiving at my sister's house in the afternoon, and in the evening my two kids and I will drive to an airport hotel near LaGuardia to catch a morning flight from JFK.

Now that is a true Thanksgiving tradition!

Even though it isn't the 24th, when bring out her cake with candles on it, we will still sing "Happy Bird-day to you"

FDR changed it to the third Thursday in 1939 to boost retail sales. It was firmly set on the 4th Thursday in 1941. Before my time, but my mother remembered it and there are some of her generation still around.

Same here, in a house with 20 in-laws and it's all talk about football, hunting and family. Not a whiff of politics.

Managed to squeeze by politics-free, even though Lefty Jr came close to the line a few times. I'm still stuffed.
