Just this once Nymr.

Elster88
Apr 15 2006 01:17 PM

After singling to left, Brady Clark is gunned by about 10 feet trying to steal second.

Castro!

Elster88
Apr 15 2006 01:18 PM

Anybody want to explain to me why the worst hitter in the National League is batting second today?

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 01:19 PM

To build CAHNfidence.

Real answer: to keep the rest of the lineup as much the same as possible. Ya don't mess with stuff when you've won 8 in a row.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 15 2006 01:20 PM

Anybody wanna explain to me why "Glavine" is in the subject heading?

Is it bad luck to change it?

Elster88
Apr 15 2006 01:20 PM

Delgado with a nice play reaching to his left snags a short hop down the line. Flip to Trachsel retires Jenkins.

D'oh. Fixed.

I don't believe in this. Will Beltran and Wright all of a sudden stop seeing the ball because they're in a different spot?

GYC
Apr 15 2006 01:23 PM

Nice bunt for Hernandez.

Elster88
Apr 15 2006 01:24 PM

A swinging bunt, purposefully. Base hit Hernandez.

5 total hits, 2 have left the infield.

My jaw dropped when i saw the lineup.
This does add fuel to by "Willie is an idiot" argument though. Would he bat Rey Ordonez 2nd?

Perhaps in Willie's World it will.

No. But its possible they believe they might; or that WWSB believes they would believe they might; or WWSB believes it might and they don;t care.

Let's hope Hernandez gets good at that little wussy hit because he hasn't shown to be good at much else offensively.

But I say, give him, 100 or 125 ABs then re-evaluate.

Elster88
Apr 15 2006 01:32 PM

]Would he bat Rey Ordonez 2nd?

Probably. He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I've been unimpressed with both his in-game management and handling of the media thus far.

But because the team is fairly disgusting he's going to look very good.

Bret Sabermetric
Apr 15 2006 01:35 PM

Wussy little hits like that also draw the infield in a few steps, and make possible a few bigger hits getting through. They all look the same in the box score.

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 01:42 PM

Damn, Steve, the guy is a .231 career hitter. You couldn't get HIM out?

Elster88
Apr 15 2006 01:44 PM

Is the first game of the year when the Mets haven't scored first?

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 01:45 PM

EDIT: No, 2nd game I think. The 4/9 game vs. the Marlins they scored first.

abogdan
Apr 15 2006 01:55 PM

The Brewers are paying way too much attention on Delgado when he's on base.

Elster88
Apr 15 2006 01:57 PM

Well....the good thing is now that the bases are loaded with one out we don't have Hernandez up.

Elster88
Apr 15 2006 01:58 PM

Good job by Castro. He's a good little player.

Willie's a genius. Castro sac fly ties it up 1-1.

Willie is a genius and saw in his Crystal BaseBall that this situation would arise.

And at 12:58 pm, the light of truth shown simulataneously on Nymr83 and abogdan.

You need to fix your clock. Spring forward.

Nymr83

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 02:10 PM

Test. (Failed.)

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 02:25 PM

Milwaukee is rallying and re-taking the lead in the fourth. One thing that isn't more fun when the Mets are winning is the Mets losing.

Elster88
Apr 15 2006 02:25 PM

Nady should've caught that, maybe?

Fake bunt and swing by Okha, ball lands on the warning track. That's decent opposite field power for a pitcher.

Holy crap, Fielder is fat rumbling in from second. A good throw by Hernandez probably gets him. He needs to make that play if he's going to hit .200

duan
Apr 15 2006 02:27 PM

ah this could get ugly.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 15 2006 02:30 PM

Nady's having a rough inning. Trax having a rough afternoon.

Edgy DC

Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Apr 15 2006 02:33 PM

He needs to do some telekinetic shit if he intends to keep hitting .200.

In fairness, at the beginning of play, three National League qualifiers had lower batting averages than Anderson Hernandez -- Jim Edmonds, Aramis Ramirez, and Dickshot's favorite hired gun at the keystone (I think), Ray Durham. Durham is the only qualifier (there are 103) with a lower OPS.

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 02:33 PM

Brewers 7-8-9 is 5-6 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.

Now, Prince Fielder is one thing. But Chad Moeller is a career .231 hitter, and Tomo Ohka is a career .156 hitter. I'd like to think Steve could get THOSE guys out.

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 02:47 PM

Now 4-1.

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 02:48 PM

With him due up 2nd, I think that's the end of Trachsel's afternoon. 96 pitches.

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 02:53 PM

It is.

Jose Reyes, walking fool.

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 02:57 PM

A good time for Hernandez's first career RBI, not happening. Willie not looking genioid at that moment.

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 03:03 PM

A funny thing about Darren Oliver. There was a feature on him in the times two days ago. I tried to save it to my hard drive as last night's game ended and just as I did, it morphed into an account of last night's game, not five minutes over.

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 03:05 PM

Oliver still looking solid.

3-4-5 due up. RALLY TIME!

A Boy Named Seo
Apr 15 2006 03:07 PM

I saw this program called "On the Wire", an hour-long collection of clips from players and managers who wore microphones during games in the 2005 season.

Most were safe, but some were candid. My favorite was Ozzie Guillen rallying the Sox, yelling in the dugout, "We're down by three, so fucking what. Let's go!".

So I say, we're down by three, so fucking what. Let's go!

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 03:07 PM

Hey! ho! let's go!
Hey! ho! let's go!

They're forming in a straight line
They're going through a tight wind
The kids are losing their minds
The Blitzkrieg Bop

They're piling in the back seat
They're generating steam heat
Pulsating to the back beat
The Blitzkrieg Bop.

Hey, ho, let's go
Shoot'em in the back now
What they want, I don't know
They're all reved up and ready to go

Hey! ho! let's go!
Hey! ho! let's go!

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 03:08 PM

Beltran cooperating.

Boo!

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 03:10 PM

Wright Sac Fly gets us another. Still need 2 more.

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 03:10 PM

Wright cuts it to two on a sacrifice fly.

Z'okay. Plenty of time.

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 03:13 PM

And Floyd walking brings up Xavier Nady as the tying run.

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 03:13 PM

Cliff brings the tying run to the plate. Seems like the Mets haven't been very patient at the plate today, with the exception of Floyd, whose seeen a lot of pitches today. Nicely done Cliff.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 15 2006 03:16 PM

I never knew Darren Oliver was Bob Oliver's kid.

ScarletKnight41
Apr 15 2006 03:18 PM

abogdan
Apr 15 2006 03:28 PM

Uh-oh. Jorge Julio is warming up.

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 03:29 PM

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 03:31 PM

I'd like to see a Pinch Hitter for Hernandez.

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 03:31 PM

Pinch hit for Andy NOW!!!!

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 03:33 PM

Or NOT!!!!

abogdan
Apr 15 2006 03:35 PM

Unclutchness from Franco, Reyes, and Hernandez strands Castro at 2B. You have to pinch hit for Hernandez in that spot.

TransMonk
Apr 15 2006 03:36 PM

Stranding a leadoff double is just bad baseball.

ScarletKnight41
Apr 15 2006 03:40 PM

Julio's pitching - Willie has officially given up on this game.

Nymr83
Apr 15 2006 03:42 PM

can we cut Julio yet?

Julio bringing nothing to the table yet again. His ERA is up to 13.50.

I'd hate to be Julio's dog tonight.

Edgy DC
Apr 15 2006 03:50 PM

Three lefthanders due up for the Brews. Might as well go back to Heilman and see if he can get right.

Nymr83
Apr 15 2006 03:52 PM

forget Norfolk Johnny, just cut this guy.

Gwreck
Apr 15 2006 03:52 PM

6-run defecit, I think we have to either put Julio back out or use Bradford. Save Heilman for the important innings.

smg58
Apr 15 2006 03:52 PM

Julio got a bad break when Hardy's bloop fell in, but he needed to show he could bounce back to justify his continued spot on the roster. Instead Jenkins hit it a mile, and Lee almost hit one out as well but Beltran reeled it in.

I realize a great start can cover up a whole bunch of issues, but Julio can't block Bell any further. It's not even in Julio's best interest to be up here at this point.

Nymr83
Apr 15 2006 03:54 PM

I'd probably throw Julio back out there for the 9th just to save the bullpen for another day.

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 15 2006 03:56 PM

Wonder if John Maine can throw in relief...

Nymr83
Apr 15 2006 03:58 PM

Heath Bell needs to be first

abogdan
Apr 15 2006 04:09 PM

And it's over.

metsmarathon
Apr 15 2006 04:10 PM

the bestthing for julio would likely be to keep him as far away from the field at shea as possible. there's just no way he's ever going to find a modicum of confidence pithing in front of mets fans. maybe, if he's going to be kept up, he can pitch on the road... but it would be far better to send him down to get "fixed"

Apr 15 2006 04:10 PM

our first loss in over a week and the blame is already flying around.

A Boy Named Seo
Apr 15 2006 06:36 PM

I think it's pretty good this has happened. Obviously not as good as if Julio was mowing peeps down, but 10 games into the season, the Mets have identified their one glaring weakness so far (yeah, there's some other minor ones, too) and they've got the resources around to correct it right away.

It's good they have a Heath Bell to bring up and running Julio out there to get torched hasn't buried the Mets in any way, even though they've lost 2 of the 4 games in which he's appeared. This kinda thing's going to happen to every team and we're in great shape to deal with it.

I don't know his contract/option status, but they've gotta do something.

Rockin' Doc
Apr 15 2006 10:04 PM

Damn!!! Obviously Willie doesn't read the POTG Polls or he would have known that Julio was only good for mop up duty.

I agree that it's time to send him south to see if he can find himself. If he can't get people out at Norfolk, then it's time for the Mets to cut their loses and move on.

Time to start a new win streak.

Rotblatt
Apr 16 2006 08:25 AM

I blame myself for going to the game--my record is about 1-10 in the last year.

Cliff looked awful at the plate. His swing looked long and his timing was way off.

Which is strange, cause he looked pretty good just two days ago.

Trachs didn't look so hot either.

Edgy DC
Apr 16 2006 08:32 AM

Guys with long swings --- Cliff Floyd, Xavier Nady --- can go from looking good to looking bad pretty quickly.

One more reason David Wright wrocks.
