Love Bites" vs. "My Old School" --Love isn't the only thing that bites. Steely Dan. "Let's Get Rocked" vs. "Kid Charlemagne" --If there's a band with dumber lyrics than Steely Dan, you've found it. Steely D. "Pour Some Sugar On Me" vs. "Babylon Sisters" --Deffy Lep. Both of these are sorta overly slick. "Armageddon It" vs. "Deacon Blues" --Tough matchup for one of the less objectionable of DL songs. SD "Photograph" vs. "Hey Nineteen" --Eh to both. SD narrowly. "Hysteria" vs. "Peg" --SD "Foolin'" vs. "Don't Take Me Alive" --SD "Rock Of Ages" vs. "Doctor Wu" -- Dumb lyrics? You're soaking in them! As I do this the classick rock radio station in my kitchen just did a commercial for their upcoming Classick Rock Weekend Featuring Def Leppard ("Gunter Glieben Glauten Globen") and then cut to "Do It Again." "Love Bites" vs. "My Old School" "Love Bites" is a kinda good song. Thought so 'til I heard Def Leppard sing it. Steely Dan "Let's Get Rocked" vs. "Kid Charlemagne" - DL I actually worked at a crappy job where the doofus --- a married adult mind you, but he spoke as if he got stoned twice a day and had for 12-15 years --- heard "Let's Get Rocked" come on the radio, pursed his lips and started nodding as if he was getting his internal adult burnout rock on, and said, "You know, it's supposed to be 'f**ked'." As if any nine-year-old could not figure out the double-entendre, but he was kind of bitter, as if the man was really denying him the profane airwaves he was entitled to. I've written about this guy in this space before actually. Yankee fan. Steely Dan. "Pour Some Sugar On Me" vs. "Babylon Sisters" Yeah, guys, let's look to the Archies for inspiration. They never even won a video vanguard award for the accomplishment. My least favorite thing about the BLC: Chuck's blanket 10-0 votes, no matter the matchup. I've given 10-0 votes myself, so that's not the issue; it just seems that haphazard voting invalidates this whole thing in my mind. (Of course, I still participate, even though I think the whole thing is hoo-hah.) My favorite thing: Edgy's detailed ramblings about each vote. That's really the way it should be; honest recollections about songs and thoughtful votes. That said, Edge: Def Leppard wrote "Love Bites." To my knowledge, they're the only ones who have recorded it. Don't know what song you're talking about. Also, in defense of "Heartbreak," there's only one DL version of it -- from 1981's "High & Dry." And it has no keyboards. Perhaps you're thinking of "Miss You In A Heartbeat"?
