Petty's got a funny voice but he's hardly incoherent. I can incohear everything he sings.

Obviously you don't remember the Saturday Night Live skit with Bob Dylan and Tom Petty speaking incoherently with one another.

Vote for Petty! He sings more clearly than Shane!

I will never, ever, ever, ever understand the hard-on members of this board have for the Pogues.

I can relate. Kind of akin to how I feel about Queen in relation to others CPF'ers.

Never say "never." Or "never, ever ever ever."

I think you've got to open, your mind, heart, and ears if you truly want to know what's behind every solid meaningful erection.

There are some things I simply prefer not to know. I'm pretty sure you've hit upon one of them.

The Pogues just barely drink Tom Petty under the table 30.5-29.5.

A rare vote for me against "Here Comes my Girl," staple of my freshman radio show. "Thousands" is just as good as it gets. It's a remarkable song that spans centuries thematacially, about a people in exile turning around and given the finger to a history that tried to annihilate them. And it's all, like a Pogues song, encapsulated in a drunken conversation.
Pogues.

I dunno. You had 48 hours (in this case since there was a weekend involved 96 hours). If Rotblatt wants to give you a pass, that's up to him I say. Otherwise, you snooze you lose.

So reject it. A vote is about registering your conscience, and that I did.

I'll be honest, I have ADD. And once somebody starts talking about hard-ons, I get distracted.

Not in, you know, that way, but I can get distracted.

sharpie
Apr 18 2006 10:42 AM

I'm not rejecting anything, I just think it's up to Rotblatt to decide.

(on edit): Or you guys can do a 3-song playoff.

Rotblatt
Apr 18 2006 11:33 AM

So Edgy's vote puts us at a tie, and we move to a tie breaker?

I'm okay with that. I'm busy, so I won't be able to post my songs until tomorrow probably, but I'm a fan of the "every vote counts" stuff.

sharpie
Apr 18 2006 11:35 AM

Actually, Edgy's vote would move Petty into the win column but I think the 3-song playoff is good.

Apr 18 2006 11:41 AM

Hold it guys, what is the vote count, if we are going to count the late Edgy vote then lets score the contest properly...there is a whole lot at stake here...

Edgy DC
Apr 18 2006 11:53 AM

it's 35.5-34.5 in favor of the Heartbrekaers with my vote. The Pogues take it 30.5-29.5 without it. I didn't vote with an eye on how this matchup would turn out, but was damn tempted to call "I'm a Man You Don't Meet Everyday" a tie, then we'd have us all locked up.

If Rottie accepts my vote. If he doesn't, that's fine, if he'll grant me a three-songer, that's cool. I can post my three tonight.

Rotblatt
Apr 18 2006 03:28 PM

Well, we should probably call it for Petty, then, right?

Let's just do that. Seems silly to do a tie breaker when there's no tie.

Rotblatt gets the BLC Good Guy Award.

People should be encouraged, however, to not push the envelope of when to vote.

Yeah, I'll take your tardy vote, Edge. But at some point in the future, I will ask you for a favor, which you may not refuse . . .
