Can we get that?

Really? How does it work?

You click on the guy's profile, click ignore user, and you're done. Just like that.

So you never see his posts again?

Did somebody say something?

I don't know that we have that available to us. We'll check.

The only ignore feature is the one between each individual poster's ears.

This feature varies from poster to poster, and past results are not indicitive
of future results, and the said feature is not guaranteed, or something.

I haven't been on SoSH in months. Do they have any posters who a large
majority of other posters find irritating? Do they allow free posting of attacks
on other poster's and their characters? Do they allow posters to freely attack
the mods, berate the admins, drag the guys under the hood through the shit
pile for individual amusement, self promotion, and revenge?

I can see how an ignore feature might be something that some people would
utilize, but I'm more interested in how they deal with problem posters. By prob-
lem posters I mean disruptive people who, in general, cause a drop in readership,
cause people to not participate, and attack posters, etc.

Since SoSH is such a highly regarded place by most baseball forum readers,
perhaps modeling the CPF's policy for dealing with disruptive participants is some-
thing we should look into and consider adopting as our own.

Yes, the ignore feature makes posts simply disappear.

I know they've banned people in the past. I don't know their exact criteria. However, things lately have gotten more police-statish over there then they had been.

I know the MOFO has an ignore feature as well. Basically you know that the guy posted, but if you have him on ignore you don't know what he said. It's like putting the tv on mute when his face appears.

I'm thinking of just being more aggressive (by "more" I mean "more than not at all") about bumping threads and parts of threads to the Red Light Forum.

I really think an ignore feature is a horrible idea, as much as things have not been good here lately no one says I have to read it....

You wouldn't have to use it.

Very true ABG, it blows that the board is coming to this though.

IMO these should be the only banishable offenses:

* trolling (coming here as the fan of another team just to pick fights, thus creating a hostile environment)

* flaming/stalking (constantly stalking a poster with ad hominem attacks)

* over-posting (putting up a ton of redundant threads to overload the board or push an agenda, thus constantly pushing all relevant Mets posting to back pages)

* improper emailing (sending threatening or spamming emails to posters)

* admin abuse (those who run this board for free don't need to put up with any shit that they don't need to put up with. However, this basis for banning is ripe for petty tyranny so its application should be carefully considered)

* improper posting (racist, obscene, infringing or viral posts - though i've got no problem with offensive posts personally, i can understand why admins might want to monitor that stuff. Like admin abuse, however, it requires restraint in its application)

IMO, Bret is not a troll. He's a disillusioned Mets fan. He usually makes Mets-related posts that raise good questions.

If he posts in a way that offends you, just move along. If he's making personal attacks, its because he's feeling personally attacked. I'm not saying his feelings are justified (I don't think they are), but they are not the arbitrary and purposely disruptive posts of a troll.

I, too, have been an ocasional target of his ranting, but I really don't get the big deal here. Folks just need a thicker skin, and more self-restraint in their willingness to respond to his provocations. Just deal with his baseball-related points or, if he bothers you, ignore him entirely.

And the only "ignore" function we need is the one KC referred to... the one between our ears.

If threads degenerate into pure flamewars, they can be moved to the redlight district.
