Re: Gone Girl (2014)

Nasty little movie.

Which isn't to say it's a BAD movie. I think the only thing keeping this not-quite-classic for me is that it's Ben Affleck as the husband. Like, it's about the best fit for a Ben Affleck part you could have-- he's a caddish doof of a hero who's tasked with being mostly unlikable-- and it still doesn't quite work as well as it should.

Re: Gone Girl (2014)

I had a hard time making the connection to real-life marriages like yours and mine this relationship wanted to reflect in the extreme. I mean, I guess. I know it was also based on a novel I didn't read but which I assume gets more into the source of her wealth and its impacts, but that whole aspect also didn't seem to make a salient point in the flick other than to contribute to its length.

All that said, the performances were pretty good -- the lawyer, his sister etc -- and it held my interest as a story.

Re: Gone Girl (2014)

I saw it a while back so the memory is a hazy shade this winter, but I remember not liking it all that much.

I think my main beef was also me not quite buying the story - meaning either it wasn't a very good novel or some things got lost in translation.

I mean, it wasn't terrible but ultimately not all that satisfying IIRC.
