The best thing of 2019 or maybe even the entire 20-teens is the Cosmic Crisp apple. The only thing I have not yet done with Cosmic Crisps is make apple sauce. When the urge strikes, I pick about 4 different apples to cook down into sauce that will include at least one Granny Smith, one Golden Delicious, and Cameos if available. Honey Crisps are strictly for munching. So when the heralded new Cosmic Crisp showed up in my local stores, I grabbed up some and declare them the best ever. Now I need to sauce them and see how that works out.

Best eating apples are Arkansas Blacks. As the name suggests, the skin is very dark, and they show up very late in the season (mid October). You can't get them in stores, only by picking them yourself. Not an apple for sauce, just eating. Big and delicious with just the right tartness.
We usually mix Fuji and Ida Red apples for sauce, make big batches and freeze it for use throughout the year. Yum.

I haven't tried them cosmic crisps yet, definitely noticed the media blitz starting a few months ago. I"ll have to go looking perhaps.
