Marvel Universe

My new affinity for running plus a subscription to Disney Plus means I have a good opportunity to catch up on the Marvel Universe. They're kinda perfect for running on a treadmill.

I think I already screwed up the optimum order by watching Infinity War first. Then I watched Avengers, Age of Ultron. Then we watched EndGame together at the theater.

My first movie on the app was the original Avengers, which was fun and light. Any recommendations for how to tackle the remainder of the series? I've seen none of the individual movies, or any of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Re: Marvel Universe

if you're going for completions sake, just watch 'em all in the order they came out. But I'm halfway through like 3 of them in the middle so what do I know.

Re: Marvel Universe

I started in the middle, jumped around, and then went back to watch the early ones for completions sake. If I had watched them in order I probably would've given up because the movies of the first five or six years aren't very good for the most part. I've found that watching more of the movies enriched the overall universe storyline but most of the movies are good enough as standalones that viewing order isn't essential and you won't miss anything by skipping the bad ones.

I'd consider the following to be the ones most worth watching:

Captain America: The First Avenger

Guardians of the Galaxy (if you like this one, then also watch the sequel)

Ant-Man (if you like this one, watch Ant-Man and Wasp too)

Spider-Man: Homecoming (if you like this one, watch Far From Home too)

Thor: Ragnarok

Black Panther

Captain Marvel

And the four Avengers movies and Captain America: Civil War, which are the big crossover movies. You should probably also watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier because most people love it and I seem to be the only one who thinks it "meh."

Thanks! I think I'll try Guardians of the Galaxy next. I think that blue robot girl is sexy.

I can't say I loved the first two Thor movies, but Ragnarok was fun.

Re: Marvel Universe

Captain America: First Avenger :: The Rocketeer/poor man's Raiders

Captain America: Winter Soldier:: Day of the Jackal/The Conversation in tights

Captain America:: Civil War:: the stupid version of Civil War from the comics/Face Off?

Iron Man-- the first one-- holds up surprisingly well, and goes a long way toward keeping Downey Jr's Stark rootable through the whole series

Guardians of the Galaxy was so much fun. Loved every minute of it.

I was thinking to jump right into Volume 2, but I think I'll leave it and give myself something to look forward to.

I'm going to try the original IronMan and try to keep somewhat of a chronological order.

I'm not sure if I remember the details of enough of these movies to try a ranking of my own, but if I did, Captain America First Avenger would be higher on the list, and Iron Man 3 would probably be at the very bottom. I definitely agree with the low placement of Captain Marvel and Dark World. And I also would have the first Iron Man movie high up there, as you did.

Re: Marvel Universe

my OCD required me to use different metrics to rank the movies ('ve actually ranked over 110 superhero movie adaptations). I used rankings from IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, CinemaScore and MetaCritic to create a metric and this was the ranking. (i did tweak it a bit to incorporate my own ranking too), I agree with you about Cap: First Avenger, but the sabrmetrics say otherwise.
