Memories of Joe Panik

Panik has signed a minor league deal with the Jays. Did some nice stopgapping in August and a September. Began and ended his Met career in games that shouldn't be forgotten: the four-run ninth-inning comeback over the Nationals and the eleventh-inning walkoff on Closing Day. Joe hit the briefly big homer in the eighth on 9/29, rendered undramatic by Paul Sewald giving one up to Panik's predecessor Adeiny Hechavarria.

One of those guys we should have got 6 months before we did. That way, no Cano/Diaz fuckup.

If he was a CAA client he would have been a Met sooner and would still be a Met. A good guy, if that's relevant, who wanted to be a Met.

A "local kid" who fit perfectly into the history of the Mets - a second baseman who was good - before he came here.

Strange that Paneeque and Tehottie both got signed to minor league deals by the same organization on the same day.
