Fun stuff-- especially that tasty twin-guitar line at the ass-end of the chorus.

Here's some New New Wave-y jangly bits from the slightly-less-Queen/slightly-more-Crowded-House new-mooziks of the 1975:

Re: New Music for Old People

This band isn't really new. They're from the 90s and two of them died in horrendous rock star ways towards the end of the decade. But they're generally unknown outside Quebec, so I'm guessing they'll be new to this forum. I found them when going down one of my Montreal rabbitholes.

Introducing...Les Colocs (The Roommates)

Mauvais Caractere = Bad Temper. I think this is the version where they segue into "Jump, Jive, An' Wail" towards the end of the song.

A couple of quick stanzas translated:

I bought a pit bull

But he couldn't handle me

He gave up and ran away

To the SPCA

...

One night at a show

There was some big dope

He talked a bit too loud

He ate my guitar

So, Willie Nile has become the chairman emeritus of NYC Rocknroll, which I'm not even sure exists anymore, beyond Willie Nile.

So his new album is a poorly timed homage to NYC nightlife, and opens with this throwback crowdpleaser complete with silly rhymes you can see coming from a mile away and more name-dropping than Weissman on a Sunday at Shea. Yes the Mets make an appearance so do the Rangers, Isles, MFYs, Jets, Giants and Knicks.

God bless Willie

Re: New Music for Old People

On Saturday's 'Mixed Bag' program on WFUV (just listening to it now) DJ Don McGee led off his show with the above Bruce tune: LETTER TO YOU

Said it's slated for a late October release and that the entire album (12 songs) was recorded 'Live' at Bruce's home studio (aka: the shots in thee above video) no re-takes, overdubs, etc.

Anyway, he followed that song up with:

ROCK & ROLL LOVE LETTER by Tim Moore. Moore didn't have a hit with his 1976 version but it was covered by the Bay City Rollers who did chart with it

THE LETTER - Box Tops (in all its sub-2:00 glory)

SIGNED, SEALED AND DELIVERED - Stevie Wonder

PLEASE MR. POSTMAN - The Marvelettes

YOU WEAR IT WELL - Rod Stewart [I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon but to settle down and write you a line]

WHY DON'T YOU WRITE ME? - Simon & Garfunkel (BOTW album)

RETURN TO SENDER - Some guy named Elvis something er other

No doubt that is AC/DC even without Malcolm Young. Malcolm's years on the highway to Hell left him with very early dementia. Saw them early on with Bon, i'll just say the police showed up.

Re: New Music for Old People

I was gonna say there's just a tiny bit of muscle missing from that rhythm guitar that I wanna imagine Malcolm zaps you with just a tiny bit harder. But yeah, same old AC/DC. I thought for sure with George and Malcolm out of the picture even the re-addition of their old players couldn;t recreate the formula.

But you know, I'm not entirely convinced that every AC/DC song wasn't written 40 years ago, or maybe by a computer programmed by George Young. I may have shared this before, but here's a proto-AC/DC song, sung by George Young, played on by teenage Mal and Angus, under the name Marcus Hook Roll Band:

What's also interesting in this is that Grohl is kind of locking in to the Stones angle, bringing less Ringo and more Charlie Watts, attacking on top of the pocket rather than thundering into a nook just behind the beat as is more of his signature. Also Stonesy in that it's more snare and less toms.
