Your 10-year-old has to make a replica of The Grand Coulee Dam and you need a shitload of popsicle sticks. You've been roped into den-parenting for Cub Scouts this month and you need cotton balls because the scouts are working on winter milieus. Your daughter is going off to college and wants affordable frames for all her damned bored-heiress and Audrey Hepburn posters. It's Halloween and you've been sent out at the last minute to pick up webs and spooky/not spooky decorations.

Where are you going to shop?

Re: Who Is Your Craft Store?

We go to both Michael's and JoAnn a lot, but Hobby Lobby is great, too. JoAnn is probably my wife's go-to for sewing stuff, and Michael's seems to always have sales on frames. Hobby Lobby is huge, especially for seasonal stuff.

Re: Who Is Your Craft Store?

If I go into one (and it would have to be under extreme duress) it would be Michel's.

Depends on the item. Michael's for some stuff, JoAnn's for other stuff. Hobby Lobby can fuck right off.

Re: Who Is Your Craft Store?

The only one near me is Michael's. (There's also an A.C. Moore, but it won't be there for much longer.) I never buy "craft" supplies, but I do sometimes buy "art" supplies. I wish there was a better place near me than Michael's, but there isn't. True art-supply stores are hard to find in suburbia.

Pretty much.

I'm biased for Michael's for uh, reasons.

I mean, a lot of it I'm still getting on Amazon.

What did they do?

We prefer Hobby Lobby but it's about 45 minutes away.

There's a Michael's close and an A C Moore but I think it's been earmarked for bye bye.

I wish we had one of these stores in my town. Honestly I buy a lot of my craft stuff at Walmart but there's a paper crafts place in U.K. I send to also

There's a Joann's and michaels in state college..the Joann's is very close to where I worked so that is where I usually go now too. I don't think their craft selection is as good as michaels but it's pretty good. I definitely go there when I need fabrics and most of my embroidery floss.

There's an AC Moore* and a Michaels in Williamsport and I go to them too.

My dream job is to have a craft/puzzle store. Kinda like a Herrschners in a real store

*i think this AC Moore is also closing

I never really thought about it but yeah they have the little 'inspirational'

Scumbags. Christ-o-pathic religious fanatical nutjobs who think they're above the law. Law-breaking antiquities smugglers. It's on behalf of and because of scumbags like this that the Supreme Court decides that some woman out in Texas has to jump through hoops and hurdles to get her birth control, legal birth control that passed every FDA requirement and that her insurer guaranteed it would cover under her insurance plan, all because her scumbag employers believe that what's in the bible is literally true and should be imposed on everybody else. Yeah right. There's an invisible man in the sky with super magical powers that makes things happen if you ask him nicely. And this crazy talk must be true because Linus the fucking cartoon character said so.

And here it is: https://www.hobbylobby.com/about-us/our-story

We are committed to:

Honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles.

Offering our customers exceptional selection and value.

Serving our employees and their families by establishing a work environment and company policies that build character, strengthen individuals, and nurture families.

Providing a return on the family's investment, sharing the Lord's blessings with our employees, and investing in our community.

I don't know about scumbags, but I do find stuff like using stores and

restaurants 'religiously' a turn-off and will likely stop shopping there.

They _literally_ were involved in a court case where they were refusing health care to their employees. That's scumbaggy.

I think the only one nearby is Michaels. Insane mess of a store. Every bit as bad as Marshalls but less familiar with it.

Michael's, I guess.

Used to be AC Moore, but, well, they're going bankrupt or folding or something, no?

Re: Who Is Your Craft Store?

I'm sorry. I didn't want to open the Hobby Lobby case for re-litigation. My wife avoids them, though she bought a doll house kit from them once a while back that I still haven't finished.

Michaels is our main choice, although their interiors really make me depressed. And they have a lot of tchotchke impulse-buy shit around the counters, like squeezable, fluffy, glittery key fob things that really aren't for keys but for dangling off of the back of girls' backpacks. They must put a lot of glitter into the system.

Re: Who Is Your Craft Store?

I like Michael's fundamental disorganization, though if I were serious about crafts, I might see it differently.

A year or so ago, my side view mirror fell out of its holder while I was on the PA Turnpike somewhere between Bedford and Pittsburgh. I couldn't find an auto parts store with a replacement, so I slapped on a $2 round craft mirror from Michael's, and it got me the visibility I needed until I got home and ordered a real Scion xB mirror. Michael's...not just for grandma's crafts anymore.

The one near me also accepts UPS deliveries. And my girlfriend gets a 20% teacher's discount even though adjunct theater history professors really don't have much use for nicnacs and glue guns.

So I'm a Michael's guy.

Although I live in Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Indiana, I'd never heard of Pat Catan's. Looks like they were bought by Michael's, and their stores are either rebranding or closing.
