ST-IGT's - The Whole Shabang in One Thread!?!

The Mets have split-squad games Saturday; one vs. the Cardinals and

the other vs. Fishsticks. The home opener is on WPIX at 1pm, set the DVR.

To me, Spring has always meant seeing the box score of the first Spring Training game.

This year, there will be the joy of seeing two of them on the same day.

Can't wait.

Very helpful. I updated to include away team broadcasts for those of us with the apps that may want to tune in.

the app lists split Mets broadcasts for the ss games, TV on the road, radio at home. dunno if that's accurate, but is true to past years.

Re: ST-IGT's - The Whole Shabang in One Thread!?!

And speaking of athletic guys, the one who started in RF today -- Ryan Cordell, in camp as an NRI following two partial seasons (254 ABs in total) w/the ChiSox -- looks like he's a piece of raw material.

With minor lg numbers that are decent but not great [.273/.334/.458 in 2K ABs] and not exactly a high pedigree guy [11th round pick out of Liberty U by Texas in 2013] he's unlikely to have a ceiling as much

more than a bench player.

But he had a nice RBI-single AB today (the only one I saw anyway) and threw out a wanderer at 1st from RF. He's a 6' 4"/195 OF'er w/some CF under his belt who can run a bit [90 SB in 115 minor lg attempts]

and turns 28 next month which means, if he's ever going to get a shot, this would be the time to do it. And right after I was thinking how good he was looking in this brief intro, Gary piped up with the tidbit that

there's been talk within the org about how he's the type of player who could play his way onto the team with a good spring in this era of 26 man rosters.

As heard on WFAN: Whether he is ready or not, he will say that he is because of a $5 million bonus payment if he is on the opening day roster. They went on to say that if he says he is ready and the Mets keep him off the fans will say "The Wilpons are trying to save money again". Of course, the ones who said it were the new team of "Moose and Maggie" and Mark Malusis has yet to say anything complimentary about the Mets, back to the days when I saw him on SNY.

DVR alert: ESPN is taking some time away from NFL draft talk this week (hey, it's only seven weeks away and those fake lists aren't going to create themselves) to show a string of MLB exhibition over

the last/next few days. Today the Mets & Cards are featured (1 PM EST) and what the four-letter network has been doing with these games is mic-ing up selected players for in-game comments. But

we're not just talking about dugout yapping, they're eavesdropping on in-AB chatter ('I think I going to get a fastball here') going out live as the game is happening. This, depending on your P.O.V., is

either a great innovation which should immediately be used in all games going forward so as to 'liven-up' the tired old game of baseball, or it's a ridiculous intrusion and a coming sign of the apocalypse.

I'm sure that's what gave them the idea. Capitalize on the buzz. ESPN is a network about athletes, not sport, after all.

I'm generally pro that I think, though not by ESPN who will focus the whole broadcast around it and miss fly balls to left field and runners tagging up to talk about it.

Yeah. This is fine for a change of pace but it's not something I'd like to see on an everyday basis and I don't think it would be nearly as entertaining after a few runs.

That said, I could see ESPN pushing to do this for their Sunday Night games. As I've said several times in the past, ESPN doesn't think you tune in to watch a baseball

game, they think you tune in to watch ESPN so I can see them trumpeting this as the big selling point.

Based on information to be gleaned from this first round of cuts, the current starter depth chart among those in camp looks something like this:
•
Jacob deGrom, L/R

  •
Marcus Stroman, R/R

  •
Noah Syndergaard, L/R

  •
Rick Porcello, R/R

  •
Steven Matz, R/L

  •
Michael Wacha, R/R

  •
Corey Oswalt, R/R

  •
David Peterson, L/L

  •
Erasmo Ramirez, R/R

  •
Walker Lockett, R/R

  •
Pedro Payano, R/R

  •
Rob Whalen, R/R

  •
Kevin Smith, L/L
  •
Smith currently has the most helium, though. He even looks like a lefthanded Jacob deGrom, the very idea of which makes me have go change my pants.

I skimmed a DVRed version of yesterday's game (most at double speed with no sound). Ryder Ryan, who now hold major hopes of continuing the Tim Bogar Trade Chain, looked good: 94 mph fb, 83 mph curve, short delivery. Also got my first look at Mauricio. He's like a baby tiger, you can see by his frame he's going to mature into something big and ferocious. Hit an opposite field single.

Gary Apple is terrible at pbp, always saying something we don't need to be told (like "first pitch swinging!" every time) and then falling behind the action from there.

I though Diaz was supposed to pitch? maybe I scanned right thru him.

I think that if just three or four players on the same team test positive at the same time, the whole team's gonna have to be shut down. The incubation period for covid-19 could be as long as two weeks, so who knows how many other teammates are infected in addition to the three or four medically confirmed cases?

California, with five teams, is not so hot either. That's three of the four most populous states. And Arizona's got a team. That's another covid disaster zone.
