2020 Vision: Jacob deGrom

2 CYs in a row for the slender righthander. Can he make it 3? Why or why not? What's your 2020 vision for JdG?

Gets a little more run support, finishes in top-three for the Cy voting. Takes a no-hitter into the eighth inning in a late-April game, gets pulled because of the pitch count, reliever gives up a hit to first batter. Twitter explodes, but columnists praise Rojas.

You've got to be damn good and damn lucky to win a Cy Young award, let alone two in a row. In short, so much has to go your way. Of course, deGrom, over the last two seasons combined, was about the unluckiest pitcher in the history of the world. So who the hell knows?

36-0. 0.48 ERA. 0.76 WHIP Five no-hitters. Hits a grand slam in August. Cures coronavirus in March.

Cy Young's ghost submits an op-ed advocating that the award be re-named the "Jacob deGrom Award".

There's no WAY he gives up that many runs. 0.36 ERA, but the rest is spot-on.

This.

The key moment of the year is when the MFYs refuse to take the field against him in the seventh game of the World Series because they don't want to be embarrassed, and the Mets win 2-0 by default.

traded to the MFYs mid-season for enough money to allow JeffPon to keep running the team.

Yankees are too cheap for that.

2.25 ERA in 225 IP. Finally wins 20 games, but somebody with a sub-2 ERA and criminally negligent run support edges him out for the Cy.

Does what he does. He'll have another great year, but somebody else will have a better year for the Cy. 17-8, 2.60 and finally gets a little run support.

Cy Young #3. Repeat of last two years - middling record, 14-9, something like that, but ERA around 1.90 and tons of K's.

Re: 2020 Vision: Jacob deGrom

Why can't a pitcher be MVP and win 3rd Cy in a row?

No reason, but it will be debated come November at length.
