Hand sanitizer

Toilet tissue

Video-chatting software

Grocery deliveries

Um ... online porn

I didn't think up until now that I was given to paranoia, but I'm pretty confident that Vladimir Putin can turn off the Internet in the US with the push of a button on his desk, and then we're all screwed. But he's holding back because he still has use for the president.

With couples staying home instead of going to work, there is going to be a run on ear plugs.

Can you imagine the kick in the balls this is going to be to the insurance industry?

I'm currently working on a report to my department head discussing the various ways this will suck for trucking insurance. Basically, start with the 2008 recession and figure out all the reasons why a public health crisis makes it worse.

One thing - truck driving is an old person's profession. We've got plenty of age 60+ drivers driving right into the thick of the virus. If they go down, we'll have plenty of inexperienced drivers tooling around on our interstate system.

Hard to think of an industry I feel less sorry for. This is literally their job. If they incorrectly calculated the risks that is on them!

Fortunately, those new drivers should be facing emptier roads!

I'm certainly not asking for your pity, but if every college and university (for instance) in America is filing a claim at the same time, I fear the waves will be felt much further down the river.

I blocked a vendor today. He normally wants to offer us branded things that fill tables at recruiting fairs -- pens, cups, bad charges, stress balls -- you know the stuff.

Today he wanted to sell me branded bottles of hand sanitizer. I know he's just doing his job, but seems like its in bad taste.

It's alright, insurance companies are usually insured.

Truckers though. Man, their days are numbered as it is. That's gonna be the first thing replaced by autonomous cars. Mostly highway driving, etc. Amazon will deploy littler trucks at pickup points outside cities to unload. I wouldn't be surprised if in 10 years we have these massive-sized 3-4x truck length things with no windows barreling down highways.

and they'll likely be a lot safer than the guy driving 85 MPH on no sleep and lots of stimulants trying to meet his quota/deliver by X time "or else"

Bought mine right at the tail end of February.

Fortuitous timing for me as it turned out ... not that I had any idea of that at the time.
