Social Media Questions Answers and Comments 2020

A fb friend of mine posted a story the other about Pelosi's office spending more

money on alcohol than food last year. I didn't click on it because I hate these fringe

'news' sites and doubly hate all the residue they leave on the computer. Anyway,

this morning I noticed an addition to the post that is unsigned but has a blue box

heading 'Related Stories - Fact Check' reporting that her office didn't spend more

money on alcohol bbbyyy...

Has anyone else noticed that things that are posted are now being monitored and

corrected by facebook somehow? I find it hard to believe an actual human takes

the time to do this but maybe they have some kind of programming in place. If

a story reaches a certain posting threshold and contains false or slandering info

it's automatically updated with a 'fact check?'

I wish it would fact check some of my sister in laws posts.

Either they're not true or five years old and no longer relevant

I try to gently steer her towards Snopes

I haven't delved into the specifics of it. But supposedly they're submitting stories (based on some algorithm i'm sure) to an 'independent' fact checker. I've only seen one or two, mostly because I've blocked, muted and reported every click bait "Pelosi is a troll" type site that's shared by anyone on Facebook so I don't see the fake news as mucch.

Interesting, it's just the first one I've noticed that seems 'mechanically' corrected.

I don't do politics on fb. I have too wide a range of opinionated friends (not that

I have a TON of fb friends) and I'm pretty mid-range so I ain't getting into any of

all that nonsense from the extreme sides. I'm not on fb a lot, I deleted it from my

mobile devices for sanity sake and not bothered enough to start blocking, muting

or reporting anything. But thanks for answering.

It's fairly new, is all I'm saying. They've been messing around with news for a bit now but I think that part of it's new.

Facebook is the worst. I don't miss it.

It's useful to me for a few things, my visits are 1/5 of what they used to be.

I'm not an FB user, but weren't they complicit in allowing just about anything to invade their advertising space: like wacko shit from Russian agents, from crackpots, and from crackpot Russian agents?

What this sounds like then is a reaction to all that, like if we get caught again just collecting cash while steering unvetted garbage into people's lives the gov't might really come down on us next time.

So now FB is, in effect, trying to show that they're willing to tamp down anything that even smells controversial ... at least until the heat dies down that is.
