Whole Lotta Nothin’

An enterprising story exploring one of the great underknown performances in Mets history: Rob Gardner's 15 scoreless innings in service to an 18-inning tie that needed to be replayed as part of a doubleheader the next day, the final day of the 1965 season.

Features young and always fascinating Ron Swoboda.

Gardner was the lefty I wanted to make it big, after I'd given up hope for Steve Dillon.

I read that this morning. Strangely rendered digital artwork. A cool depiction of Shea in the background, but the Swoboda figure in the foreground — with the small, thin number — is more suggestive of the Cubs' look than the Mets'.

I want to nonetheless congratulate them for depicting Ronnie in his original 14, rather than his more typical 4, but then I look at a the name-on-back in 1965 and it's all wrong.
