Jeez. I'm so screwed up. I thought this was yesterday's thread and that today is Tuesday. I had the grilled cheese yesterday, Sunday. Haven't eaten a thing yet, today.

I'm thinking modified pizza. I made a big batch of tomato sauce last night. Sauce and mozzarella on italian bread and in the oven.

Just a PB&J with a llama-themed granola bar. They're really good. Llamas are the office mascot, as we are striving to be a drama-free office.

As long as it's not a llama-flavored granola bar I think we're OK here.

(although maybe llama-flavored is good ... I dunno)

I went with leftover chicken mixed with rotini pasta and topped with black pepper, a couple of splashes of hot sauce, and some blue cheese dressing.

As we've been slouching towards mostly-veg life in this abode-- partly spurred by kid request-- and I'm a curious cat, we've been trying virtually every faux-meat cylinder, disc, and scribble out there. Gotta say... the Smart Dog is, like, my least favorite of them all. Or second-least, if I'm forgetting something so terrible I've blanked it out to protect myself from the taste experience. Just... totally unmeaty, and weirdly smooth and squeaky in texture. Our favorites on that front are the irritatingly-expensive Field Roast dogs and Beyond (which is so sodium- and fat-loaded, you might as well be having the real thing, health-wise).

Can't knock your junk-food accompaniment, though-- the Doctor is one of the few sodas that can tempt me back to the fountain on occasion.

I've had some perfectly acceptable meat substitutes. Seitan pulled-porklike food from Upton's tastes fine, but it's as processed and pumped full of flavory-things as anything you could make.

We're generally into real meat around here but to the extent I'd pull that back, we'd sooner move to, for example, cauliflower cut lengthwise and grilled than Impossible Burgers.

yeah, Impossible burgers aren't actually 'heatlhier' except in the sense that we generally eat too much meat. I actually think these products are sort of a 'gateway' and that we'll get to something closer to lab-created meat (this is more of a generic protein patty type thing) in the future. It won't be healthier for us either, it'll be pretty identical to a steak/whatever, but definitely healthier for the environment

Because of the amount of Potassium they contain, the ersatz meat products are more harmful to me than eating moderate amounts of actual meat.

Bad for my kidneys. Since my cancer surgery, I have very limited kidney function, and they have to work hard to expel potassium from your system.

Re: ===---**》》Lunch Check《《**--==

Basically, potassium is a salt and your body wants to regulate the amount of salt in your system.

So more salt means more retained liquid in an attempt to keep the percentage of salt in the blood more constant (that's also why potassium is good for fighting cramps due to dehydration)

- more retained liquid means higher pressure in blood vessels (think of the extra pressure on the walls of your garden hose if you try to shove more water through it)

- and then the above mentioned kidneys working OT trying to rid the body of this excess salt.

As with most things, a reasonable amount is fine. Your body requires a certain amount of salt ... it just doesn't need to OD on it and most modern day processed foods contain more

than we normally need.

Yes, good memory jogging Dr FK. I was on a combo pill and another for high

blood pressure that contained a diuretic. It was dehydrating me too much since

I drink a lot of beer (alcohol is also a diuretic) and was told to avoid potassium.

They put me on the non-combo pill a month or two later and everything went

roses again since then.

Thanks. I haven't seen Russian Dressing for a while, but it used to be a deli staple when I was a kid. I remember it from Kosher delis because it does not contain any milk products, although the original lobster shells would have been a no-no. And that is probably why the Thousand Island dressing was popular in the NY region that includes the Catskills. Maybe what we got was Thousand Island, but called Russian.

My lunch today will be a turkey and Swiss (with lettuce, tomato and mayo) on a grinder roll. We got it at Stew Leonards yesterday, my first venture to the store since isolation. We got there very early during "seniors time" and the place wasn't very crowded.

Just stock ketchup and mayo, and-- along with the contents of a decently-stocked fridge door, you can make either or both... or just mayo-and-ketchup variants with varying degrees of heat, which are generally boss breakfast sandwich condiments.

Hence "varying degrees of heat." I've got a better-stocked weirdshit neighborhood in my fridge and spice cabinet than most, so that'll include sweet chili sauce (instead of ketchup), aleppo pepper flakes, a dash of Valentina, some Huy Font srirachaction, or even sichimi togarashi (Japanese red pepper blend, usually with some dried bits of citrus peel tossed in there).

But if you've got the right mayo (hint: Kewpie mayo, if you can get to an Asian store)... it's all good on its lonesome.

Our ex-neighbors were from Baltimore (pronounced Bal'mer) and every year they would have a 4th of July crab feast in their back yard; fireworks, beer and crabs cooked with Old Bay seasoning. We got hooked on it and still have a can of it in our spice cabinet.

He swore he would eat a bowling ball if it had Old Bay seasoning on it, and I have to say, I might even consider it. But I prefer it on crabs. MMYF and I still have our own crab hammers for breaking the shells.

As for lunch today, leftover shrimp scampi and rice.
