Memories of Jacob Rhame

The Mets waived Jacob Rhame. The Angels have claimed him. Rhame was the PTBNL bounty the Dodgers delivered for Curtis Granderson. He kept his talent for pitching well-hidden in multiple bullpen trials. Was never the main Jacob on the Mets.

If the Angels can't fix him, he should reinvent himself as a bullpen catcher.

Part of the cartload of righthanded relievers brought over in the deadline selloff of 2017. Couldn't stick long in 2019 due to the walksies.

In all fairness, he's done about as much for us, post-Grandy trade, as Grandy has done for us, post-Grandy trade. So... evens!

What's missing is the corresponding move. Who will they be adding to the roster? By the way, I hated how the Rhames were rotated in and out last season, with the Mets trying to effectively field an eight-nine-ten-man bullpen by constantly rotating new guys into the back-end slots. The way they kept the door revolving, nobody really got a chance to find himself, make adjustments, and possibly establish himself as a big-league keeper.

Rhame never really ran with any of his opportunities but you're right, the Mets have cycled through an buttload of young relievers with next to no success being disposable short-inning, mopup guys on the AAA Express. Maybe they just don't believe these guys truly have enough stuff to get big-league hitters out regularly, or maybe it's something in their approach, which seems to be further compromised by reliably losing themselves into an every-game-counts situation by mid-June which shortens everyone's patience. I wish they'd Show Us The Plan for these kinda guys.

They may well have, and probably mostly did, but bringing them up in three-five day stints rather than for two-four weeks seems to me to be no way to find out who might might be least sucky, or possibly even good.

The Phillies thought that he threw at Rhys Hoskins (?) after his slow HR trot. I think that I wrote that the Phillies are nuts if they feel that Rhame has good enough control to throw near someone's head on purpose.
