The Mets christen newly named Truist Park by hopefully ruining the night of all those stiffs in the seats. Porcello tries to get his act together against this lineup: Acuña RF Swanson SS Freeman 1B Ozuna LF Adams DH d'Arnaud C Riley 3B Hechavarría 2B Inciarte CF Newcomb P Couple ex-Mets in there. Maybe don't shake hands.

So the Braves have five two-out hits so far in this game, including four in a row and two for RBIs Do the Mets even have four two-out hits this year so far? I know they didn't over the previous two games. oe: the Mets are 13 (10 singles) for 72 w/2 outs so far with a whopping 6 RBIs: .171/.272/.236

Not exactly a full-fledged rebirth quite yet, but he's something on the order of .297/.315/.540 since August of 2019 [about 190 PAs]

Davis got the same pitch three times in a row. Took two for strikes, and served the third, which had the least plate of the three, one into right for the RBI. Sweet piece of hitting, but it's certainly helpful when Chacin sticks with the same pitchy.

I was there when D'Arnaud hit his first major league home run. The Mets lost, and gave up 11 runs that day, too. Something about him and the Mets giving up 11 runs, no matter which team he plays for. I don't want to see him any more. Later

It's somewhat counter-intuitive, isn't it? You'd think that the DH would (at least) mean shorter games because of fewer substitutions being necessary, but obviously those cuts are being more than offset in other parts of the game, and those legendary Yankee/Red Sox suckathons are going to happen everywhere now. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this wet slog version of baseball we're seeing isn't Spring Training baseball at all, but simply American League baseball.

The other thing is pitch count. I saw a list a few days ago of most pitches by one team over one season in baseball history. Now that's a bit misleading in that 'baseball history' in this case means since 1988 which I guess is when reliable pitch count data started being recorded. But that's still 30 seasons or nearly 900 team/seasons even if we toss out the shortened '94 & '95 seasons which aren't going to appear on a list of highest cumulative totals. Anyway, the top two teams were the 2019 Red Sox and the 2019 Orioles, and I think it was six of the top 20 ever occurred in 2019 The highest 300 teams were listed and a majority of those were the most recent decade while there were all of two or three seasons from the '90s. So lots more pitches being thrown but with many fewer being put into play ... that's a bad combination.
