This is the 32nd time the Mets have taken on the previous season's defending world champs for the first time “the season after,“ starting with the 1964 Dodgers, running through the 2017 Cubs, and reaching, at last, the 2020 Nats. The Mets are 16-15 in such situations entering tonight. Some incredibly memorable meetings along the way.

I'm unfamiliar with baby-baseball rules; could they have pinch-hit Dom, then slid Ramos in to catch? I seem to remember something of a reverse-double-switch rule being in play, wherein if a DH moves to the field, the team LOSES the DH, and has to hit the pitcher in the vacated position slot.

isnt there a 3rd catcher on the roster? its not like you need to save position players to hit for the pitcher later ....



but yes, if youmove the DH to the field you lose the DH

Yes, the Mets have 3 C's as Ali Sanchez is on the roster. Even if you moved Ramos to C and "lost" the DH you could still PH for the P. Anything would have been preferable to having Nido bat there (Luis will cite the hard groundball he hit earlier in the game).

It's interesting, at least to me, that some teams changed the start times of their night games without having to be concerned about whether fans can get there on time. BOS and BAL moved the games to 7:30 while WSH, to their credit (did I just say something nice about WSH?) moved many of them up to 6:10.

6:10 makes a lot of sense. More fans will be able to see the entire game and the players will have more time to visit nightclubs after the game. (Maybe that last part is less than ideal.)
