CPF Zoom Meeting

kcmets
Jul 14 2020 11:00 AM

Greetings,

Cutting to the chase, I need to get some video conferencing moderating skills on Zoom and

would like to have a half-hour/forty-five-minute CPF meeting on July 20th at 7:30.

Not sure what the topic(s) will be, feel free to suggests some.

Chime in here with a yay (for attending) When we get closer I'll figure out a way to get in-

terested posters the meeting id and password info.

Thanks!

Actually, I take some of that back. Not having a camera on your PC, Mac, laptop or whatever means that you won't be able to be seen by others. But you'll still be able to see them (so long as their cameras are on).

No. You can participate even without a computer camera. You can hear and also speak. And you can see everyone who has their video on. You just can't be seen, is all.

Here's what a zoom computer meeting would look like on your screen. Think of Hollywood Squares with every participant getting his or her own square.

[FIMG=444]https://www.technology.pitt.edu/sites/default/files/blog-images/ZoomMeeting.png[/FIMG]

[FIMG=444]https://ca-times.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/7f069ce/2147483647/strip/true/crop/2808x1607+0+0/resize/840x481!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcalifornia-times-brightspot.s3.amazonaws.com%2F22%2F94%2Fdcba53814c47b09bc8d84b43cc0f%2Fartist-relief-fund.jpg[/FIMG]

But anyone without a camera or with their video turned off would be represented by a black square with no image. But you'd still be on the meeting, for all other purposes.

Re: CPF Zoom Meeting

I know how ZOOM works and have been on it before ... just never from my home computer.

And I suspect I'd have to speak REALLY LOUDLY into my microphone-less monitor for the others in the group to hear me

... which brings me right back to the ability to listen in on the meeting but not really participate in any meaningful way.

Well, you didn't say that you also lacked a microphone until just now. So without video and audio, I guess you can't participate meaningfully. You can lurk, though, and watch everybody else.

I took two screen shots of the meeting, both yielding this? Hmmm...

We HAVE to do another. I mean, as soon as Kase develops another agenda. (Next week some time? Maybe, like, 8ish?)

Might be fun to do a Zoom IGT one evening next week.

That sounds fun. We've been doing zoom watch parties for soccer matches and the interaction is pretty fun. Some people are slightly ahead or behind the action, which can be frustrating, though. If seeing someone pump their fist before you know what the hell happened sounds annoying to you, then it might not be the best time.

You hit "Alt + PrntScreen," I think you said on the call, when you should just be hitting "PrntScreen" to get the full contents of your monitor, is my guess. I'd have done it myself except I was dialed in from my phone and you can only see 4 participants at a time on the app.

I think it's more it printed the active window than my keystrokes. That volume

window shouldn't be showing, I must have just turned it up bit and didn't get rid

of it...

We'll get 'em next time, looks like this thing is gonna be a thing!

I think Cooby's zoom account is filtered to automatically log off if Fman is talking.

What I saw was a bunch of awkward middle-aged guys in basements, man caves, and seedy-looking motel rooms, and Fman chilling on his back patio sucking down suds and as comfortable as anyone ever.

If there's a TV personality among us, he's the one.

Nobody looks cooler than a dude on a deck. And that was my living room, not a seedy motel room. People often make that mistake.

I totally zoned on following up on this. Do you still have time available on the account we used?

Agenda-wise, one thing we could discuss is whether to consider getting a CPF Zoom account and

have meetings every couple of weeks. One way to raise money for it would be to resurrect the

RAMETS tee-shirt drive or something. We'd have to get the ok from Zvon to use his artwork. I

suppose we'll see how things go season-wise too, we might be discussing what it was like to have

a ten game season or whatever.

I think I've got, like, three more weeks? Lemme know when to put up the signal light in the sky.

Cool beans! Guess we'll let people chime in a few days with suggestions.
