Blue Jays are considering playing in Buffalo or Dunedin, Florida.

The stadium in Buffalo has substandard lighting and Dunedin is in the COVID-friendly state of Florida. I'd say the Blue Jays should opt for 4pm games in Buffalo.

I prefer top think of it as one major league team and two american league teams.

It'd be hard for it to be too much a PR problem. It's not like the cardboard cutouts in Buffalo are gonna boo during "O, Canada!"

Re: No Canada

As of this afternoon, the Blue Jays still don't know where they'll be playing their home games. The Buffalo report cited above must have been premature.

A Toronto beat writer interviewed on yesterday's ESPN telecast said that the Jays are considering other AAA parks, including Charlotte. Locating in Florida seems like a terrible choice. The Marlins and Rays should be seeking alternatives.

I haven't read anything about this, so maybe what I'm about to write is well known, but it just occurs to me that this is much less about the Blue Jays hosting games at the Steve J. Rogers Center than it is about letting players go from the miserable and plague-stricken United States back and forth across the Canadian border.

It doesn't have to be a major league park because seating capacity isn't an issue.

What about Hartford? Half way between NY and Boston, so travel isn't an issue and it is only a few years old, so it would have up-to-date amenities for the players and good places for them to dine after the games.

Just sayin'.

So Washington (MFNs) and the MFYs get an extra home series even though they won't be the home team and there are no home fans (not that it matters much in Washington).

Re: No Canada

It doesn't look like it's a matter of "yet". Maybe the article has been revised since you posted the link, but it currently says that the request has been denied.

So Pennsylvania doesn't want teams coming into the Western part of the state to play the Blue Jays, but it's okay if they come in to play the Pirates?

The Philadelphia area hasn't been hit as hard as Pittsburgh has. Would they let the Blue Jays play at Citizens Bank Park? (I'm guessing probably not.)

One option includes going to the city of each scheduled opponent and playing as the home team, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney.

I think the Jays players would probably prefer Buffalo, minor-league facility that it is, to being constantly on the road for two months.

Union should insist they play in MLB quality park. So, not a AAA stadium and not Tampa.

I think amenities are kind of beside the point in an empty stadium. All the facilities of a recently constructed AAA stadium that aren't in use can be adapted to expand the players' areas.

can they? space wise? social distancing wise? If say the gym is half the side, the clubhouse only has 30 lockers instead of 75, etc? Maybe for some recently constructed ones, but which ones are those? certainly not in NY.

On Thursday, Maryland governor Larry Hogan spoke to the Associated Press on the possibility of allowing the Blue Jays to host games at Camden Yards: "We've had some discussions with the Orioles. The state of Connecticut is willing to allow the Blue Jays to play home games at Dunkin' Donuts Park in Hartford, named the best park at the AA level in 2017 and 2018 according to Ballpark Digest.

Max Reiss, Gov. Ned Lamont's communications director, said the governor was on the phone with Toronto Blue Jays management for 20 minutes Thursday. Lamont first contacted Toronto's front office last week.

Hartford, Lamont said, would be a perfect spot for home games and its proximity to other cities where the Blue Jays are expected to play.

Re: No Canada

From mlb.com

TORONTO — The Blue Jays have found a home for the 2020 MLB season at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, the club announced Friday.

Toronto had been searching for a stadium to play its home games since the Canadian federal government denied their approval to carry out the regular season at Rogers Centre. The club then explored playing at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, which was denied at the state level, and were exploring other options such as Camden Yards in Baltimore before landing on Buffalo, home to their Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons.

“We are extremely grateful to have a home in Buffalo this season, thanks to the openness, creativity, and partnership of the Buffalo Bisons, Major League Baseball and Blue Jays staff, who have worked tirelessly to prepare us for games at Sahlen Field,” said club president and CEO Mark Shapiro in a statement. “This process has no doubt tested our team's resilience, but our players and staff refuse to make excuses – we are determined to take the field on Opening Day today, and for the coming months, with the same intensity and competitiveness that our fans expect.”

Buffalo had been on the table throughout the search process to varying degrees as the Blue Jays explored Major League options, and some work remains to get the ballpark to the team's standards. One major need is supplemental lighting, along with added infrastructure to allow for more physical distancing. The Blue Jays will need to “reimagine," as Shapiro put it recently, some of the physical space, which could include the concourse or bleachers.

As the Blue Jays prepare their stadium, the first two home games, scheduled for July 29 -30 against the Nationals, will be moved to Washington, an easy switch as the Blue Jays will already be there on July 27 and 28 for the first half of what was originally a home and home.

As the timelines for the changes to Sahlen Field are finalized, the Blue Jays will decide between hosting their new home opener either July 31 against the Phillies or August 11 against the Marlins.

Further details on the project will come this afternoon from Shapiro.
