Second assistant hitting coach Ryan Ellis is listed as 34, while Noah Syndergaard isn't listed on the IL. Jeremy Hefner is listed as 93, perhaps because Melky Cabrera, since teleased, had 53 in camp.

Only if he makes the last out in the inning before. The runner isn't someone you can designate; it's whoever is in the lineup and would bat ninth in the current inning.

I guess having your manager opt to not PH for Tomas Nido but then does PH for you an inning or two later more or less serves as the DFA equivalent of writing on the wall. I remember picking Cordell out during ST (the original one) as a player to watch. Still not sure I wouldn't prefer him to Billy Hamilton but I admit that's largely speculative.

Patrick Mazeika is optioned, meaning Ali Sanchez's reward for allowing Jon Berti the final segment of his trip around the bases is promotion from 29th man on a 28-man roster to 28th man. The catching depth here is astounding.

LHP Steven Matz was placed on the IL with left shoulder discomfort. RHP Dellin Betances was placed on the IL with right lat tightness. RHP Drew Smith and RHP Franklyn Kilome have been recalled from the team's Alternate Training Site. RHP Ariel Jurado has been recalled as the team's 29th man. Jurado will wear No. 49.

I suppose I realize they're not everyone's cup of tea, but making those cards was extremely pleasurable and satisfying for me. I pretty much stopped posting those cards -- the reason being that about half a year ago, my hard drive crashed. I hadn't backed it up for about six weeks before the crash and everything I did on my PC over those last six weeks was lost. I'm angry with myself for not sufficiently backing it up or even finally buying a new drive or PC because there were obvious signs that my hard drive was failing. Manson, without doubt, was one of the biggest stories of 1969. But I couldn't bring myself to celebrate someone so purely evil. And celebrate, I thought, is what I'd clearly be doing by putting Manson on a card. But in the end, I figured that I could channel that newsworthy story without Manson by putting Sharon Tate in the "says" box, instead. Then I made that card around Quentin Tarantino's love letter to 1969 -- Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I made an Al Schmelz Batman card. Al Schmelz ferchrissakes -- that might be the wildest, zaniest Batman card of all of them. All lost. I started a new subset of Batman cards code-named "You Look Familiar", a few of which I posted. I'd say the first C belongs to first names and the second to second names. Both of them would come out for the Chris Capuanos of the world. But maybe Bucket is on to something, and the second C should only belong to the second capital C in first or last names that have two capital C's. Besides Choo-Choo Coleman, there wouldn't be a lot of deployments. C.C. Sabathia, maybe.

I've been aware of this issue since I began making these cards and it annoys me as well. I use several formats to display the player's name on this set. Whenever I use that square red box format for the player's name, I often have to compress the player's name to fit it into the square red box. I could fit the name into the box without compressing it by setting the font size to a smaller number, but then the font would be shorter, and I thought that was an even worse option. But compression doesn't work too well with this particular Coca-Cola font because the font is very ornate and intricate and so, I think, the individual letters need some more separation to "breathe". I could've make the red box bigger, but I tried that, and didn't like that look either. The other solution is to only use the square red box format with players whose names have fewer characters -- this way, there wouldn't be a need to compress the font. But I've committed the square red box to the "Classic" subset and so Choo Choo's stuck with that box.

One way of doing it is to reduce the first name size and place the two names on two lines, but right on top of one another. 　Choo-Choo Coleman Like-a that, except with the Choo-Choo sitting right on top of the l, and in the script font and such. Some of these cards tell me what team a guy plaze for, and others do not. That can be frusterating. I have been conditioned to expect a team and a position on a player's card. These are nits, of course. They're a terrific set. Except the Syndergaard caard. Come on with that.

That pisses me off. A few weeks ago, one of the AL teams(white sox or blue jays) started a rolly-poly 21 year old rookie catcher and IIRC the kid got 3 or 4 hits, including a homer. One of our top two hitting position prospects is catcher Francisco Alvarez, who is in our 60 player camp. He has hit well (at lower levels). Why not see what he can do? Signing Realmuto in the off season isn't a sure thing.

If it were up to me, I wouldn't shy away from those "mask" photos. They tell a story about an event that will no doubt, go down as one of the most significant episodes in world history. But mask-wearing has become so politicized and so polarizing -controversial-, I'd guess that Topps will avoid them to "play it safe". Too bad Topps is the only game in town these days. On a related side note, I found it harder than usual to find what I would classify as interesting baseball photos for this year's games. There was no shortage of action shots, but far fewer pre-game shots. I'm sure that this is not a coincidence and likely the result of photographers having less access than usual to the game and the players because of the pandemic. Also, I wonder if only home or local photographers had access to the games. This was a mild bummer for me, because I prefer the posed-style Topps shots for baseball cards over action shots. The poses are warmer and give a sense of intimacy while the action shots, to me, are repetitive.

I just think Topps and others like to do their best to sell the illusion that the photo was taken yesterday, and the guy on the card could be the exact same guy out on the field right now. With that specific article, you'd figure there'd be a picture of Mike Trout if there was going to be just one photo. But it turns out that Robles was the Angels best pitcher in 2019 and one of its best players overall. Robles was third in WAR on the 2019 Angels despite being a reliever and led all 2019 Angels pitchers in ERA+, WHIP and WAR. So Robles was a logical choice to represent the Angels by photo in that piece. Plus, that might be my favorite photo in the whole set. I should've cropped it even more to emphasize the mask. I generally prefer older school stuff. But after a few cards, I thought that the color scheme wasn't working. The old school Pepsi colors didn't work well with the Mets colors and the newfangled photography, whose colors are more vibrant. Old school Pepsi was more pastel-like and somewhat duller. Nothing wrong with that, but it wasn't suited for the baseball photos. So after about a dozen cards, we switched to the newer Pepsi colors, which are a much richer red and blue.
