Cespedes AWOL

Gary just reporting this now.

Not reported to the park. The team is unable to reach him.

I'm hoping that he just didn't realize there was a day game, but WtF?!

Re: Céspedes MIA

Didn't report to the park? Don't they all stay in the same hotel and travel together? Assuming they beat on his hotel room door today, so it sounds like he bailed from the hotel at some point then. I hope he's ok.

Re: Céspedes MIA

Not for nothing, but they're on the road, so it's less likely that he's pulling a Harvey (as opposed to pulling an oblique or quad) so the personnel should be in mostly regular contact with/view of each other.

So I'm guessing he either forgot it was a day game and went golfing, or maybe he got himself busted.

I hope it's not worse.

The Wild Boar is... ugg, nevermind hope he turns up safe and sound.

Re: Céspedes MIA

So best case scenario, he went golfing and left his phone at the hotel. He's out of the Mets bubble now and would have to quarantine for how many days? The Mets would surely fine him, yall think they would suspend him for a game, too? I hope this is all it is.

The team would know about it if it's Covid related, probably before the player would.

And you wouldn't be expecting someone to show up to the park w/Covid.

Well, knowing he's been seen, if he has indeed been seen, doesn't particularly cancel "he didn't show up" or "we can't get in touch with him."

Perhaps he was seen dancing naked in the Centennial Olympic Park water fountain. And his cell phone got wet. I dunno. I just know that this'll be the biggest sports story in New York for the next 3 or 4 days.

Whatever I had been up to, I would appreciate it if the club spoke with me before letting the world know.

eh, fuck that. its game day and you aren't at the park, reporters and others will immediately be asking why. The Mets shouldn't need to lie or say 'no comment' because you didn't have the common decency to make a phone call. Don't like it? don't work in an industry where your job takes place on live television.

Re: Céspedes MIA

Reports on ESPN say he disappeared like a thief in the night, he and his things were gone when the Mets sent someone to his hotel room. His agent called during the game to inform BVW.

I hope a Diaz fastball finds his rear end wherever he plays next year. What an ass. You want to opt-out? do it like a professional.

Also, being that Cess was supposed to be there, this is different than the last time the Mets had a case of AWOLing.

That was a case of miscommunication with a hungover Harvey on a day Harvey didn't have to be at Citi Field. The only reason it became a thing in the media/social media platforms is because he got scratched from his start the next day because of disciplinary reasons.

To Namor's point, the initial release was more staying on top of things by saying “we're aware that one of our players is not with us at Truist Field. We've tried contacting him, yyybbb.” Other wise it would be more of a #LOLMets thing, as opposed to a legit communication breakdown occurring and the Mets scrambling while saying “no comment” to the concerned media and fan base.

Re: Céspedes MIA

Yeah, the Mets shouldn't be forced to scramble or cover for his ass.

Did his agent, who ultimately delivered the message, completely fuck up and not deliver it earlier as he should have? that is about the only way Cespedes wouldn't be the dick here.

But it just might behoove them to do so. They generally don't. In fact, they usually go the other way.
