The Apropos of Nothing 2020 Thread

What? China, of all nations, doesn't have eminent domain?

Check out the video below. A woman refused to move to make way for a major highway. So the government built the highway to surround her house. Two lanes to one side of the house and two lanes on the other side.

Re: The Apropos of Nothing 2020 Thread

Today is my moms 9th day at assisted living. Its not a quarantine but they keep new residents from family for 14 days to settle into their new home. I miss her very very much and cant wait to see her. Coulda talked on phone with her but Verizon put off installations due to the outage

I saw that that Chinese house story as well and was shocked that the gov't didn't just demo the house whether she was still in it or not.

Maybe they decided that allowing her to stay while they built the highway around her was worse punishment.

btw, we didn't skip this year's version of the 'Apropos of Nothing' thread, it's just disguised as 'Small Things Considered'

His wife Suzi Maplesyrup is lovely, though. Not to mention his Aunt Je......oh, never mind.

Newsday definitely devotes more back pages to hockey than the News or the Post do.

If there was a Tabloid Cover Derby for the Islanders, Newsday would be tremendously favored.

I got gas this morning a Sinclair station. I don't know why, but I thought Dino

went extinct decades ago but there he was adorning some fancy new pumps.

So, there's this guy flying around in a jetpack in Southern California. At 3,000 feet. One way to beat traffic on the 405, I guess.

And just like that, gas is like half the price it was a number of years ago.

Surprised The Grand Wizard is trumpeting his pie hole over that too.

Peekskill/Cortland area. It's a dumpy station that has changed brands frequently

but they always have cheapest gas on a mile or so strip that has a lot of stores

and gas. I only remember Sinclair I think because they had big colorful ads in

the early Mets memorabilia.

Dad would go to Sinclair every so often just to make me happy I think. He was a sweetie

My mom, and my son and his wife incidentally, are in a neighborhood which currently has air quality warning in place because of a (so far) 24 hour fire at a neighborhood hospital.

Knock wood.

That was the reason we got the new roof. The old one was well over 20 years old.

The guy lives in town, and his company has been around for 30+ years. He did the house across the street and it was fast because he had about half a dozen guys working on it. They have it down to a science.

Thanks.

The roof that came with my newly built house lasted eight years. It's replacement has been doing really well and it's been in place for twelve years. I hope to be long gone from here before it turns twenty.

I'm down to one team I root for with a possibility of making the post season (The Jets have no chance).

Go Connecticut Sun!

They're one win away from making the WNBA finals.

I'll put this here. My mom went into assisted living three months ago. Her decline has been incremental month to month for some time. She is currently in St. Peters hospital with a gall bladder issue and possibly liver as well. Surgery is being recommended to remove her gall bladder.

She is 82 on blood thinners and with some level of dementia. I am trying to hope for the best. I just don't know what best is.

Hang in there, pal.

The most serious immediate thing is undergoing surgery while on blood thinners. That's experience talking.

Best wishes for positive outcomes.
