Break the Free Fall IGT - 8/17/20 Mets @ Marlins

Looks like everyone else is on an IGT losing streak so I guess it's up to me. Robert Gsellman vs Jordan Yamamoto The 24 y/o Hawaii born Yamamoto is making his 3rd start this year after 15 last season. His two starts this season (TOR & BAL) finds his ERA in the district of Matzlandia (9.82) Faced the Mets twice last year and went 1-1 The 9-6 Marlins are coming off losing 2 of 3 to the Braves and not scoring a lot (lost 1-2 and 0-4) especially when you consider that the Braves's pitching staff at the moment consists of two peanut vendors and a AA batting practice catcher. Mets will try to jack up their runs scored tonight by getting at least two hits w/RiSP ... even if it takes them 16 ABs

Either the ump is generous or Cervelli is stealing a lot of strikes. Really, they're the only strikes that Yamamoto is getting.

Already two opportunities to score a run with a flyball and they can't get it done. Fortunately, Dom and Amed did some damage.

That has to be one of the worst 3-run innings I've ever seen. They should scored about 10. This club is disgraceful

The two replay reviews in this game each appeared to take well over one minute ... or about 50 seconds longer than either should have needed. They can put a time limit on it all they want, but if there's no enforcement it doesn't matter.

So they mentioned earlier that Alonso has had more RiSP in his PAs than anyone else in MLB (was it 30 or 39?) Well that HR he just hit was his 12th RBI of the season and 4 of those RBIs were himself since that was his 4th HR So with all those bodies on base he's driven in just 8 of them. On a related note, only the Giants have hit into more DPs this season than the Mets.

A leadoff triple for Nimmo and 2-3-4 in the order due up. So I'm guessing about a 10% chance at bringing him in? Just the fact that this game in still in play is ridiculous. And it's not just in play but I'd say it's in danger!

The Mets have the names and addresses of hundreds of thousands of fans. Everytime a ball this season is retired in a game that would be chucked into the stands they should randomly mail a game-used ball to someone.

I don't want to find out if the string hanging off the second baseman's glove may have grazed a shoelace of the baserunner or f a ball down the line may have kicked up a microscopic amount of chalk. I want the baserunner in Galaragga's "perfect game" called out at first base because he was out by a foot. I'm down with no challenges for a week if you lose one. On the flip side, the humble umpires should be allowed to ask for one whenever they want. But demanding they do so without using your own challenge will be punished the same as arguing balls and strikes.

I'm fairly certain that several teams-- the As and Cubs among them, IIRC--are doing this already. But, y'know, like JCL, I don't expect much from the team that spent a decade or two dithering over whether running a fan fest was something worthwhile to do.

I'm not known for my marketing acumen, but it seems to me that a lottery of free ballz are a low-cost value added to increase sales of $68 corrugated plastic photo cutouts.

It'[s great marketing but the Mets can't or won't be bothered. The Met thing to do would be to collect them in bunches and then have Paul Sewald and Nimmo do a camera-ready donation to a little league or something. Cheaper and from the Mets' POV the kind of wide-ranging PR pop they like. The one-to-one marketing with fans is all transactional in nature to them.
