There's a vacancy at the top

Koosman was to have his number retired this year, joining Seaver and Piazza as the only Mets players so honored. Since I always liked him and Jerry was here longer than Mike, I voted Jerry.

I assume Willie Mays and Ricky Henderson aren't really eligible, because we're looking for most greatness as a Met. I go with Wright, with deGrom closing fast.

Leave the door open for Tim Tebow, though.

I reluctantly voted Wright over Kooz, by a hair or three.

In terms of WAR (via Baseball Reference) in the orange and blue:

1. Seaver 76.0

2. Wright 49.2

3. Gooden 41.6

4. Koosman 39.4

5. Strawberry 36.6

6. DeGrom 34.8

7. Beltran 31.1

8. Alfonzo 29.6

9. Leiter 28.0

10. Reyes 27.9

Re: Who is now the Greatest Living Met?

Tough call among a crop of excellent but flawed Mets. I went with Piazza, probably the best hitting catcher ever and the only other HoFer with a Mets cap. I'm wondering how he missed the top 10 in WAR. I guess six good seasons aren't enough in aggregate.

A respectful nod to the always underappreciated Carlos Beltran; the Astros scandal doesn't change his Metly career.
