So now he'll have more time to watch 'Godfather III'

Read earlier in the week that they will be re-releasing that movie with an alternate ending.

He'll be waiting breathlessly for it.

Not sure what an alternate ending would be since I never saw the original ending ... or the original beginning.

I & II are among my favorite movies of all time but I've never even been tempted to take a gander at III

If you liked I and II, don't watch III unless they change it. (maybe even if they change the ending)

Trust me (and almost every film reviewer on the planet) on this one.

I found RC Cola in the vending machine at work the other day...had to buy it for nostalgic sakes...it wasn't as good as I remembered it as a Mets sponsor as a kid...Did not realize that the company formerly known as "Green Mountain Coffee" owns RC Cola nowadays, they make better coffee than soda apparently

It had a couple of good scenes, and, honestly, it had the potential to be a good movie, while not anything even in the ballpark of the two movies in the series that preceded it. But man, Sofia Coppola, for all of her later-to-emerge directing prowess, was both bad at acting and bad at being good looking.

I never could get past the point that Andy Garcia could bed an in-her-prime Bridget Fonda 30 minutes into that movie but later fall desperately in love with his own ugly cousin.

A .294/.337/.430 career line, $71M in earnings, and a ring. Not Hall-worthy, but I'd take it happily.

It's hard not to speculate that the death of Lasorda triggered his choice.

I can't speak to "greatest," but he really was a terrific third base coach.

That's a shame. Ten years ago he was looking like a 3,000-hit candidate, and he wound up not getting 2,000. Only three hits since 2017.

Re: Farewells 2020-21

A lot of parallels with David Wright: a beloved lifer with one team whose career fizzled out after being derailed by injuries for several seasons. Too bad there will be no opportunity for Pedroia to play a final game with the Sox. Although, I suspect he'll be back in a coaching position in the not-to-distant future (should he want to do such a thing).

Re: Farewells 2020-21

Yeah, I was thinking of the parallels too.

Pedroia got the Rookie of the Year that Wright ended up missing out on due to a mid-season callup, and the MVP that Wright missed out on due to a not-so-great voting job.

Both also got undermined by one injury compounding another, though I associate much of Wright's premature decline with training rather than with on-the-field mishaps.

Can't write out that collision with Davis, though.

Re: Farewells 2020-21

I doubly resented him. Not only was he a borderline player who nonetheless killed us, but he make a perfectly good comeback from the surgery that Wright couldn't return from. I think he also returned from getting his hand smashed by C.C. Sabathia.

Petty bitterness aside, he was hard not to like. He was, like, everything you want in a sub-All Star home team player and capable of growing a beard in about four hours. Apart from the two devastating injuries, he was never not in the lineup, whether with Baltimore or Atlanta.

Yep. Liked him as an O, didn't as a Brave. (Come to think of it, I haven't liked any Brave that didn't play for them in Milwaukee.)

I saw him one-hit the Mets in September 2013, when it felt as if the Mets would never climb out of their hole. Gio had a way of shoveling dirt on them.

Man, did that read like he was just disengaged or what?

"I mean, I dunno. It's cool and all to pitch for the Brewers. But I'm sitting there in the bullpen, and the phone rings, and it's 9:30. And I've been waiting all week for the new episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and I'm a half hour in, and they're telling me to get loose. At 9:30. So I've got to Tivo that episode, and mentally put aside all that stuff about Walker and Sam and who the real shieldbearer is — just put it out of my head — and go out there and pitch. And I don't know, man."
