A woman of color taking over a legacy strip with a white alpha-male protagonist and giving it a satirical turn is a bold, high-risk venture. The 14 loyal nonagernarian Mark Trail readers might be in an uproar. I like how distinctly different her style is, but she nonetheless is able to work in signature MT touches like the log cabin corner, the text boxes, and the Jack Elrod circle. I guess the test will come when she's challenged to do her lampooning while working in the traditional goals of the strip: action, natural education, and elephant hating.

If you go to the Comics Kingdom forum to read the comments, they were mostly snarky but slowly people seem to be appreciating the humor Saw a YouTube video with her and she is one strange chick

I enjoyed it, but I put it aside. The fun had grown to malice inside the echo chamber, and funny became icky or even creepy.

Yes, seeing all the commenters trying to make the same kind of jokes Josh does, only not as well, isn't that appealing. I could see what got under his skin about For Better or Worse, and Funky Winkerbean, and he was serious about his criticism of them, not just taking cheap shots. But the commenters were just piling on. I like his takes on the dramatic strips the best; they have a nice balance of snark and sincere enjoyment. I got into CC about when Mary Worth had a stalker, and Apartment 3G was still going, and Jack Elrod was still doing Mark Trail, talking squirrels and all. That was a good time. Anyway, I've lost touch for a while, and I had no idea what happened to Mark Trail. I'm looking forward to catching up.
