Also joining the Mets on yesterday's pile of minor league deals was husky longtime Braves reliever Arodys VizcaĆno.
Viz-a-viz was had season-ending labrum surgery after four appearances (he's also a Tommy John veteran) in 2019 and was subsequently dealt to Seattle in May (for Anthony Swarzak, as a matter of fact). I'm not sure how that worked, but it's true. He never appeared for the Mariners and the Mets bring him back to the National League where he belongs. Hopefully, he's shed that gut a little.
When he was working and healthy, his slider was one of the best pitches in the division, as it didn't really behave a slider, but something like a hard curve, and something like a splitter, looking delectably hittable before a sudden 12-6 drop. It works against lefties and righties, and when folks start looking for it, he zips an easy fastball right by them.
