"Mets need to make things right with Carlos Beltran"

Interesting read from Mike Vaccaro in the Post today.

He says Mets should never have caved to the pressure to fire Beltran, and with Hinch and Cora now hired and rehired, Cohen should find a role for Beltran. Not managing, as the job now belongs to Rojas. But he says Beltran's excellent baseball knowledge should not go to waste.

I have no idea is Beltran actually wants to come back to the Mets or baseball. At some point the Mets need to put him in the team Hall of Fame.

I don't think the Mets made anything wrong with Beltran. It was announced as a mutually agreed-upon separation. Beltran is richer than a Crosius. If he feels a need to redeem himself, terrific. But that doesn't mean he needs the Mets to engineer that for him.

But I agree that he belongs in the team Hall of Fame, sooner rather than later. And it probably serves the team well to keep him in circulation, and publicly demonstrate their posture toward him, before that happens. I think a new ownership and new front office can provide that opportunity.

I'd argue rebuilding the bridge with Edgardo Alfonzo would be more of a priority.

Yeah he was set to go into the Met Hall back in the spring, but the sting of getting sacked following a championship season would be lessened if brought back into the fold in some fashion.

Well, I'd argue rebuilding the bridge with Nancy Seaver is more of a priority, but Beltran was on the menu.

Beltran was Omar. BVW was the guy who traded Beltran. Omar Mets them went and let the guy they got for Beltran walk and reacquired Beltran to manage. The whole thing was insane.

From what little I know about this falling out, and I do mean "little, this should be the easiest bridge to repair now that the Wilpons are out. I'm sure Cohen'll have some big event to mark Seaver's death as soon as the fans can attend again. With Nancy there, of course. Cohen will even pay for Nancy's hotel room. And let her bring guests. And then a statue unveiling. That'll be another day. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that hardly anything's been done on that statue front other than the big splashy announcements about the project. I wouldn't be surprised that once it sank into the Wilpons heads that they were really about to lose ownership of the team, that statue project went into some four corners offense-like stall. Jeez, the guy was elected to the HOF almost 30 years ago, ferchrissakes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Mets wear a commemorative patch to mark Seaver's death in 2021, as well. And it'll be a Cohen patch. Not this unimaginative mail-it-in 41 in a circle.
