Steve and Sandy Press Conference, November 10

I'm not sure I'll be able to watch it live, but I expect someone here will.

Ken Davidoff in the Post has a list of questions that he'd like to ask: The biggest questions facing Steve Cohen, Sandy Alderson

Channel Guide says it's on SNY at 12:30 so I just set it to record for two hours

and hope for the best.

Different voice from usual moderating the press call — I wonder if that's a harbinger.

Sandy: Rojas will probably be back, but he wants to leave the door open in respect for whoever the GM will be.

Steve: He's not in this to make money. He's doing this to make Mets fans happy.

Everyone addressing him as "Steve" except, so far, for Anthony diComo, who called him "Mr. Cohen."

Tony is very formal. Asks questions of Mr. deGrom, et al.

Steve says he likes what the Dodgers are doing, and it's fine.

Fred clearly liked what the Dodgers had done, and he got grief.

Steve says he'll be somewhat disappointed if there's no World Series win in the next three to five years.

That's ballsy.

During the summer, Sandy sent Steve "a memo".

I haven't seen a "memo" in almost thirty years!

The Mets will make sure they "have enough meat and potatoes, but they'll also shop in the gourmet section."

Sandy: There are two currencies in baseball: Players and money. If the Mets hold on to their players, they'll have to spend more money. And they're prepared to do that.

Mets beat guys are noticeably young and living out of some pretty tight digs.

Steve says he likes what the Dodgers are doing, and it's fine.

Fred clearly liked what the 1955 Dodgers had done, and he got grief.

Fixed that for you.

SNY on live for more than two hours so far. They've never stayed live in a non-game situation this long without somebody having died.

Sandy also said that the Mets would have teams in Syracuse, Binghamton, Brooklyn, and St. Lucie.

I had thought that Brooklyn was going to replace Binghamton in the Eastern League. So I'm not sure how this alignment is going to work.

Brooklyn to Low-A maybe, effectively replacing Columbia (SC) Fireflies?

It would still be a half-step up from NY-Penn Lg for Brooklyn but they wouldn't be all that close to any So Atl Lg teams.

Something doesn't seem right about that quartet. Bingo out and Columbia still in makes more sense.

Re: Steve and Sandy Press Conference, November 10

Maybe one would be an extended spring training type facility used for player development but not playing games in any league - like the extended roster camps this year.

Re: Steve and Sandy Press Conference, November 10

Extended ST is in St Lucie and it will certainly stay there.

The overall ML plan is to cut down from the norm of six affiliated teams per franchise down to four, but all of those four would be part of established leagues.

A plan floated more than once had the demise of Binghamton with Brooklyn slated to take its place in the AA Eastern League. Maybe that's changed, but

there doesn't seem to be another logical spot for Brooklyn to wind up nor is there a logical candidate among the four listed to fill a slot in either of the two

Low-A leagues, the Sally or Midwest.

I thought it was speculated somewhere that Brooklyn could be AA and Bingo would busted down to low A

I suppose Binghamton could go to the New York-Penn league, but I don't know that that league is going to survive either.

Re: Steve and Sandy Press Conference, November 10

Yeah, the whole point was for them to phase out those low-level/short-season leagues like the NYP.

The closest Sally Lg teams to either Bingo or Brooklyn are Lakewood NJ, Hagerstown MD, and Delmarva which is in I believe Dover DE, so I suppose it's possible

for them to include either/or, although much of the rest of that circuit is in the Carolinas and Georgia, much further than most Low-A teams usually travel.

I'm watching the replay of this conference and I've splooged about a dozen times.

I don't necessarily believe everything I hear but the idea of this message being delivered -- by the Mets -- is almost unimaginable.

I might be off a word or two but I like this carefully chosen choice of words

regarding where and how Sandy can shop. "We now can emphasize the ac-

quisition rather than the cost."

Agreed.

And can we at least wait to see how he'll own the team, who he'll choose to run the team, and what the

results of him running the team will be before we start worshipping just the simple fact that he owns it?

Re: Steve and Sandy Press Conference, November 10

He declared an intention to win a championship in three-five years. That's fine, but isn't that just setting a low bar? You may want to fully transform the organization into your vision in five years, but you're not starting from scratch, here. In fact, the guy you're giving the ropes to initially here, is the guy who put most of your human assets in place.

Anyhow, in three to five years, my goal is three to five championships.

That goal doesn't move my needle, at all. And if Cohen was serious about that and not just hyping, I'd say it's crazy talk, because as far as I'm concerned, it's all one big pot luck crap shoot once the playoffs start. Not that it can't happen.

Now if the Mets make the playoffs for the next five straight years, then they'll have as good a shot as any other team to bring home the trophy in the next five years.

First place finishes are where it's at and I took Cohen's presser to mean he wants consistently strong seasons.

Just like the other teams that play in America's biggest markets- -- Dodgers and Yankees.

As per SNY, Cohen announced today that Old-Timer's Day will resume this year.

No word yet about Banner Day.
