Mets expressing MLB free-agency interest in Marcell Ozuna

Another corner outfielder?

Re: Let's talk about Marcell Ozuna

He's very much the consolation prize in the George Springer race, so it's part of the game to at least buy a ticket.

He's not a CF and, although he won a Gold Glove back in '17, you watch him now and you can't see how such a thing was ever true. iow. he's not even a good corner glove now.

Not too old to hit though ...

Re: Let's talk about Marcell Ozuna

Yeah, maybe he's roided up the upper body and compromised his mobility.

I imagine any part of accepting the consolation prize of Ozuna involves either (a) keeping Nimmo in center, or (b) moving parts made more redundant by Ozuna's signing in pursuit of a strong centerfielder or starting pitching.

In other words, he's nowhere near the fit that Springstone is.

Scouting reports suggest that Pete Crow-Armstrong could be one of the better centerfielders in the bigs if he was put out there today. He's years away, of course, even if everything works out, and even then, might lose a step or two before his bat arrives. But it'd be sweet if Springer could hold down center until then.

Re: Let's talk about Marcell Ozuna

He has gone from CF to LF to (mostly) DH very quickly, so it sounds like he is a full time DH waiting to happen.

His righty-ness can't be ignored, but if the DH in the NL decision is delayed by a year, he would be an expensive positionless redundancy.

But, if the Mets don't sign Springer (gasp) he would be a nice short term LF backup plan, freeing up others to be part of a trade.

I can't believe that we're almost three weeks into the free agency signing period and MLB still hasn't announced whether or not there'll be a DH next season.

It definitely should have been decided by now. What are they waiting for?

MLB and the MLBPA have to swap horses.

Re: Let's talk about Marcell Ozuna

Never been an Ozuna fan, although, I've said this before, my impression of him is as an overmatched young Marlin probably rushed to the big leagues.

But above mentioned stuff about his fatness and fitness gives me pause. Springer much better for a lot of reasons and if you miss him then maybe, you try and trade, and then get to Ozuna

waiting to depress salaries by not telling NL teams they have 15 starters to sign

Re: Let's talk about Marcell Ozuna

I think being linked publicly to Ozuna might be an attempt to create a bit of leverage with Springer. Springer has to know that we have few options without him, and that we have money to spend.

I think everybody's waiting for Cohen and the Mets to make a major move so as to "set the market" and let everybody else know where they stand and what to demand.

You do due diligence on everybody, and you adapt if somebody turns out to be a bargain. That being said, I don't see the fit.
