Charlie Morton to the Braves

1 year, $15 million.

Whatever we end up doing, Braves are going to be tough in 2021. Good pitching, good lineup.

Morton would have been a nice option for the Mets.

For what it's worth, he nearly doubled his predicted salary per MLB Trade Rumors. They had him at $8M to the Mets.

This tells me the Mets better get a GM in place quickly. This is an unusual year, and we may be looking at a different model. Players may be signing earlier than in the past, going for whatever free agent dollars teams will have available well before the Holiday seasons.

One signing doesn't make a new model, but we don't want to get hurt if there is one.

The Mets have an acting GM in Sandy Alderson. I don't think any free agents are likely to slip by during this period of time.

He REALLY would have been. Secret little crush of mine-- while we've all been saying names like Realmuto and Lindor out loud-- after watching crazy curveball video from last year from PitchingNinja (DEFINITELY worth a follow on Twitter/YouTube if you enjoy pitching porn).

I thought that NJ's own would be a good fit for the Mets but maybe Sandy has bigger goals.

Morton was a key cog in my “World Series Contender while staying under the luxury tax” model. Of course that required him to sign for $8M, so that's out the window.

Of course I have no idea if the Mets intend to stay under the luxury tax, so I don't know if it matters.

I don't know a lot about Odorizzi, but his stats suggest he's very inconsistent.

Braves have a good organ-i-zation. They always seem to get the one guy they need at the moment they need him, usually not for much. Like Donaldson, Ozuna etc, plus they pump out guys who can hit. Seems like they went direct from Chipper to Freddy as far as HOFworthy anchor players go. They pretty much always have a good manager too.

I know they are shitty and shady when it comes to building stadiums and minor league affiliates etc but a good org

I like Snitker, I think, but I'm not sure I ever thought much of Fredi Gonzalez.

But that was a whole organization shift where they decided to buy out all their players' arbitration years and locked themselves into a lineup that they couldn't make adjustments with.

That was an organizational messup, but they sure cut, moved on, and rebounded effectively.

What I like most is how focused and aggressive they are. Like, look at what they've done in the last three offseasons-- Donaldson, Ozuna, Morton-- and how quickly they've gotten those deals done.
