So lets' poll the Georgia run-offs, which will determine which party controls the next Senate. Pick one option. Vote-changing is permitted. I already voted. I went with the GOP sweep option. Because I'm used to being disappointed by senate races. I know that the black vote delivered Georgia for Biden, but they didn't do it by themselves. Otherwise, they would have pulled Ossoff (D) over the finish line ahead of Perdue (R) and the Dems would only have to win one run-off election. My take? Biden won Georgia because independents and a lot of moderate Republicans also came through for Biden. They rejected Trumpism, but being Republicans, they voted for the GOP senators as a check on Biden. And now that Biden has won the presidential election, the runoffs will really act like a mid-term check on the sitting president. I hope I'm very wrong. I want to be wrong. But whaddyouse expect? Susan Collins won her re-election and Maine's not even a red state. Susan Collins.

Odds favor a split of Warnock and Purdue winning, which seems plausible to me.

I'd love to be the optimist here, but I think both will go to the Republicans. Both seats will move in lock-step: I don't think there'll be a split. And being that it's still freaking Georgia and the Democratic track record of lousy turnout in special elections, I think the R's squeak by. And if you don't give him his other 's', he's going to sue your Ossoff.

The presidential results show that Dem victories are possible in Georgia, but for the reasons mentioned above, I think it is unlikely either Dem wins a runoff. I'll be making phone calls and sending postcards, though.

I've already sent some cash both their ways and may convince myself to send more. I guess the flip side of the D turnout problem is that it should be easier to convince people to show up than to actually try to change minds. But after a basically disappointing election night, I'm still feeling pessimistic.

Kelly Loeffler, in Georgia runoff, tests positive for coronavirus; receives 2nd inconclusive test Loeffler's spokesperson said she tested positive for the virus on Friday night, but a follow-up test on Saturday came back inconclusive. She is isolating as a precaution "until retesting is conclusive." I sent my money to Stacey Abrams' Fair Fight. They split it three ways, between her organization and the two candidates. I figure that's about the best allocation of resources.

Bump. Anybody changing their votes? Interesting dynamic with Trump threatening to veto the latest Covid releif bill unless the $600.00 payments are increased to $2,000.00. Some hardcore conservative scumbag GOP senators won't go for it on grounds that only the super-rich are entitled to government handouts and there's enough of them to block the $2,000.00 checks. Will the senate's refusal to increase those check amounts hurt the GOP in the Georgia run-offs?

I'm not sure that question will be asked where most of the people who will be voting get their news. But it could harm the GOP candidates if they say they voted for less than their president wanted, just not enough to matter. Later

Looks like Americans won't be getting $2,000.00 stimulus checks unless the Dems control the Senate. Perdue and Louffler are now on board for those 2K checks even though they were both dead against it a few months ago. Hope those swing voters see through this shameless opportunism. Besides, voting for those two won't get Americans tbeir 2K anyways. They're gonna need a Dem majority for that.

Not changing. Ossoff and Warnock are getting outspent (hey, I did my part), and while early voting trends strongly Democratic, Republicans will come out in droves on January 5th. Mitch is pairing the $2000 vote with a couple of poison pills for Democrats that they can't accept- an investigation of 'voter fraud' and the Section 230 regulations Trump wants on social media because they hurt his fee-fees. So he gives cover for Loeffler and Perdue to vote for it, Democrats vote against it and he gets some evil goodies in the bargain. Win-win-win for Mitch. I'd love to be wrong, but I think this passes and Loeffler and Perdue still squeak by.

But they're reporting that about 67,000 black voters who did not vote in the presidential election have early-voted in the Georgia run-offs. That's significant and more than five times Biden's 2020 margin of victory over Trump in that state.

Loeffler had a regular republican Collins picking at her heels on the November ballot. Collins would not drop out. Had he, I don't believe there would have been a runoff. All four running are either distasteful or steeped in "meh".

Those polls look nice, but it will be a while before my faith in poll numbers is restored.

Maybe. But fivethirtyeight had Biden up by 1.2 and 2.6 in GA and AZ, respectively, in the 2020 presidential election. Anyway, even if their GA run-off numbers are reliable, that's surely within the margin of error so they're essentially toss-ups.
