Ha-Seong Kim posted. https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2065944 The Bucheon native had the best campaign of his career with the Heroes last year, hitting .306/.397/.523 with 30 homers, 109 RBIs, and 23 steals. How cool would it be if FK, JCL and I all got to wear jerseys with our names next year.

Several interesting foreign players this year. Oscar Colás is out there —a Cuban outfielder/firstbaseman playing in Japan, with lots of experience, but only 21, who also supposedly pitches. Yoelkis Céspedes, brother of Yoenis, is raw and probably not big-league ready. None of these guys are great fits for the lineup, but that could change as the parts move around. Reports on Kim give me a little Matsui memory, with speculation that his power won't translate and his arm perhaps won't let him stick at shortstop. I always thought Matsui's problem wasn't so much that his power didn't translate, but rather that he was so confident that it wouldn't follow him that he tried to make himself a slap hitter, which wouldn't work without the turf that was prevalent in Japan. If nothing else, here's to the Mets scouting the hell out of these guys.

The whole Matsui-Reyes controversy was so Wilponian. Get a Japanese guy whom the foreign press will cover as a revenue generator (sell ads a la Hidecki across town). Engage ex-pat son of the owner to facilitate the deal, developing bad blood in the family while doing so. Play him at SS moving aside a younger teammate with eye-popping ability, assuring that Matsui in addition to making the adjustment to a new league/language etc also absorbs the "blame" (Art Howe gets dirtied as well) while Reyes seemingly develops a mysterious injury that keeps him out for a year.

Kim supposedly has "at least six" teams sniffing, according to Bai Ji Haeon of Navar News. One of those teams supposedly is the Mets. Man, signing this guy would really put the merry-go-round in motion as to what positions the players should consider themselves assigned to.

As long as we dont have another Kaz Met-sucky situation where a superior defender hets moved off SS to accomodate the big name. We are not the Yankees, we shouldnt do that shit.

Does this guy play third base? Mets have so many possibilities still. Looking over Intl prospects came across a familiar name-- OF Mel Rojas Jr., who flamed out of the Pirates system then became a switch-hitting power-hitter MVP type in Korea. You'd figure Luis would know about what this dude is all about

How well do Korean stats translate over here? Eric Thames had three seasons with an OPS over 1.100 (i.e., better than Kim) before coming back here and posting an .877, .783., and .852 in three successive seasons. If that's typical, then great hitters in Korea are pretty good here. Kim might give you mid to upper 7s here, which is fine for a middle infielder but probably not All-Star material. I'd have looked into him but I wouldn't have opened my wallet too wide.

My shorthand is that the KBO plays at about a high-A level of competition. That may be somewhat dated, and they may be moving closer to AA.
