Memories of Michael Wacha

Rays sign for one year the Met they saw the last week of the season and will presumably return him to his former glory.

Won his first game as a Met, vs. Boston, then resolutely avoided success. Started the game the Mets won in Baltimore the night Tom Seaver's death was announced, though Wacha was not involved in the decision.

Seemed nice enough.

Got his first career win against the Mets at Citi Field, besting current Mets pitching coach Jeremy Hefner back in 2013.

I don't know if the even the Rays can help a degenerative shoulder condition. I guess we'll see.

Memories. I remember thinking he would suck and get injured. Then he sucked and got injured.

Yeah, that's kind of where I am with him.

Wait he sucked? Oh, that's right. I was mixing him up with Rick Porcello, who sucked.

21 of Wacha's 34 innings pitched were against AL East clubs. Weird year.

He was friendly as he finished his warmup session during a Spring Training practice. He signed numerous autographs (despite them not knowing who he was) and was dripping sweat. I said "will someone get him a towel!" and he laughed. Then we took this picture.

Analytics say that he deserved better results than he got with the Mets.

Seven and two-thirds innings, giving up a single run on a homer.
