Yes. But for some reason, it bugs me when the page numbers are Roman numerals.

The only time I consider not doing it is if I'm reading a scholarly edition of a work, and there's an intro by Professor Woolblazer about the cultural import of the novel.



I usually read those anyhow, too, but too often there's a plot reveals that I don't want.

Yes, most of the time.

And the Roman Numeral thing bothers me, too. It must be a carry-over from high school, when we had to number footnotes on term papers with Roman Numerals.

I do too but sometimes I read it afterwards because then it makes more sense
