*** XMAS/NEW YEARS HOLIDAY WORK CHECK ***

Who's still humping their desks this week? Or next?

My company has paid holidays this Thursday and Friday for Xmas' Eve and Xmas, and next Friday for New Years Day. I added this Wednesday and next Wednesday/Thursday, so I have set my self up with back to back two day work weeks and five day weekends.

I'd have taken a full week off, perhaps, if there was more open or to do, but there's really not. I found that my five day weekend I took around the Thanksgiving holiday was a decent amount of time for me to feel rested and refreshed when it was over.

My husband is taking Wednesday as a vacation day; his last of the year

He was planning to use one at New Years but the snow day gobbled that up

My daughters school is on remote today and tomorrow then off until after the 1st

My slacker university let us off starting today thru January 3, 3-1/2 more days than the usual holiday break.

I usually like to work this time of year, when nobody's around and I can get stuff done. But this year I have too much vacation time to carry over, so I'm off today, half-assedly working tomorrow and Wednesday, then out Thursday until Jan. 4.

Friend of mine is in town visiting family for Xmas, so we got together socially distanced this morning and exchanged gifts and discussed the many reasons why I saw no point in the Mets trying to pursue Lindor (well, four reasons: Gimenez, Guillorme, Rosario, and the high trade cost for one year of a guy who may or may not bounce back in 2021). Gifts were a Canadiens jersey that I picked up in Montreal back in the Before Times and a case of Great Lakes for him, fifth of rye from a small Pennsylvania distillery for me. Also stopped into the West Side Market and got some fresh salmon now curing in my fridge. Also spent an hour finding stuff at my local Lowe's.

Was it a variety pack? I am partial myself to the "Ohio City" oatmeal stout as well as their Nosferatu Red Ale and Great Lakes IPA. All good 'uns.

In fact I wrote a review of the Nosferatu here should you feel like reading a bit ;)

Christmas Ale...more or less a given at this time of year. I like the Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. Will keep your favorites in mind; it's inevitable that I drive through Syracuse one of these days when the pandemic's over.

Working til Wednesday, then off until January 4th. Things are winding down this week as many people are off already.

Not a fan of Christmas/Winter ales. Have laid on a generous supply of Wet Ticket Kolsch for the holidays.

A nice side benefit to a long Xmas/New Years break -- thru Jan 4th for many based on how the calendar falls this year -- is that by the time you get back it's already a full two weeks past the shortest

day of the year (today). And actually the sunset times have already turned around by the time we hit the solstice (the shorter days have been because sunrise times were still getting later) so by the

time your typical 9-to-5'er is getting out of work (in, like, a normal year anyway) the night sky is already getting noticeably lighter by a tiny bit each day.

The weather is still going to suck for a while of course, but the increased light becomes a mental note that we're past the depths of darkness.
