Honestly guys, I know some of us lost loved ones, and that hurts

But I think the worst that happened for me was losing Zvon. I still can't believe it

No doubt.

The worst part about 2020 is that you feel like something is supposed to magically lift on January 1, but nothing will.

The dead will still be dead. The damage the president has done will still be in place. We'll still struggle to agree with our fellow citizens about objective reality. We have a world of work ahead of us.

I know. My mom and I talked about this recently.

At least there is hope, with a vaccine

Re: 2020

A happy new year to each and every one of you. I'm glad to all of you who survived the 79 months of 2020.

To our companion who didn't, I raise a glass to one who left so much goodness in his wake. May old acquaintances never be forgot.

Oh my goodness! All those years ago listening to that song dozens of times...I should have been ready for that!

Good job FK!

Re: 2020

Gotta credit the DJ I was listening to earlier. He kicked off his Jan 2nd show (though I'm just listening tonight) with that song.

1968 Is No Longer the Worst Year I've Experienced, But a New Year Starts Tomorrow

I am writing this 11 hours before 2021 arrives, and dammit, I'm not taking anything for granted until the ball drops.

Excerpt:

I've got a feeling twenty-one

Is going to be a good year

Especially if you and me

See it in together

I had no reason

To be over optimistic

But somehow when you smiled

I can brave bad weather

—Pete Townshend

It struck me just the other day that this is indeed the 100th anniversary of the year when Captain Walker came home suddenly and found his wife with another man, killed him, and set the whole plot in motion. This may not be important to anyone but me, but I thought it was worth noting, considering what the odds were that we'd get this far. I mean, between murder hornets, the pandemic, and El Caudillo Del Mar-a-Lago, being around and healthy at the turning of the year was at longer odds than usual. Without question, this has been the worst year I've experienced. 1968 finally has lost the title. I have no reason to be overoptimistic, either.
