That was a nice solid inning. 4 runs in, 3 after 2 outs.

Edgy DC
Jun 21 2005 07:52 PM

Mets up 5-1 on a four-run second, and everybody stung the ball except Benson, who was successfully sacrificing.

Edgy DC
Jun 21 2005 07:58 PM

By the way, I'm not quite reasonable-doubt sure if Beltran touched home plate on that hook.

Edgy DC
Jun 21 2005 08:13 PM

I just time-travelled to 2025 to listen to Pat Burrell's Hall of Fame induction speech.

"I'd like to than the Mets... a lot."

Edgy DC
Jun 21 2005 08:18 PM

Does anybody else get a trip there?

Edgy DC
Jun 21 2005 08:22 PM

Myers knocked out.

Who else is digging on Wright in the two-hole?

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 21 2005 08:22 PM

Reyes just toured the bases at high speed.

A walk and Beltran's RBI single KO's Myers, who's a snotty punk and deserved it.

Jun 21 2005 08:50 PM

Well, he's not hitting, but at least Mientkiewicz can still play defen...,er, never mind.

It's 6-5 Mets after five.

And we got to the Phillies pen early tonight, which is a good thing to do in the first game of a three game series.

seawolf17
Jun 21 2005 09:04 PM

Hey, Pat Burrell homered; that never happens.

seawolf17
Jun 21 2005 09:26 PM

RING! RING! RING!

6-5 going to the 8th.

seawolf17
Jun 21 2005 09:28 PM

Dougie goes

and I knew Urbina would help the Mets at some point this season.

seawolf17

And Daubach goes

Johnny Dickshot

That was a nice inning.

ScarletKnight41
Jun 21 2005 09:47 PM

A 6-4-3 double play was Bert's best friend and the way out of the 8th inning.

Does anyone know Wagner's entrance music in Philly?

seawolf17
Jun 21 2005 09:50 PM

He should enter to Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries." (Or, as I like to call it, "Dance of the Valkyries.")

As of last year, it was "Enter Sandman."

ScarletKnight41
Jun 21 2005 09:53 PM

Thanks Seawolf.

Edgy DC
Jun 21 2005 09:53 PM

Is there some skinny kid behind home plate holding a magnifying glass toward the action?

KC
Jun 21 2005 09:57 PM

Lol, I think it's a radar gun.

Vahgner always finds it's way into a Mets thread every year. Long dark stuff.

KC
Jun 21 2005 09:59 PM

Since when can you swing your elbow into the strike zone and get a HBP?

seawolf17
Jun 21 2005 10:01 PM

How the hell did that ball bounce over Reyes' head? Damn you, Philly, and your real grass. Bring back the turf.

Reyes makes a nice play to get the runner at second, but Lofton beats it out. Tying runner at the plate, two out. COME ON, Looper.

Edgy DC
Jun 21 2005 10:03 PM

Shouldn't Anderson have been at the bag on that play?

seawolf17
Jun 21 2005 10:06 PM

And they win the damn thing by the score of 8-5.

Edgy DC
Jun 21 2005 10:06 PM

There's Mienkiewicz's glove.

Eggcellent.

Freaky-deaky ninth, but eggcellent.

ScarletKnight41
Jun 21 2005 10:08 PM

One down, two to go.

I'll be there tomorrow - is anyone else going?

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 21 2005 10:10 PM

solid game, really.

It's the Gerald Williams effect, Mint was on the post-game raving about the work he did today with Williams, I did notice during the game that Williams was chatting to guys a lot, could be he was just catching up but you never know.

The Mets are 8-2 in Benson's starts...I wonder why that is, any reasons why Kris gets all the run support?

At least this time it did not beat the Mets

Whew!
I needed that.

Edgy DC

I suspect Matsui would have gotten it for initially angling toward the ball instead of the bag on the potential DP grounder to Reyes in the ninth, as Anderson did, thus leading Reyes to take it himself rather than trying to lead a redirecting Anderson to the bag with a short toss.

Also, is Thome really this cooked? Do you suspect Giambi Syndrome?

Interesting isn't it? Seems like guys aren't allowed to have bad years anymore without the 'Giambi Question' rearing its ugly head.

What about Burnitz a few years back? Bad season or first year off the juice?

Baerga (sorry cooby)? Alomar? Vaughn?

Edgy DC
Jun 22 2005 09:27 AM

Well, keep in mind I'm speculating, not accusing.

But obviously, this is the first year of a new regime, and therefore frames the quesiton in a way that didn't applay to Burnitz, Baerga, Alomar, and Vaughn?

cooby
Jun 22 2005 09:29 AM

Edgy, do you think you could wait until the Mets are done playing the Phillies before you wake this sleeping giant named Jim Thome? I think it's kinda nice to not dread him for a change

soupcan
Jun 22 2005 09:38 AM

Yeah right its not like Pat the Bat is exactly napping you know?

And I'm sorry if I came across as being sarcastic in my response to the Thome question. I wasn't. I really do find it interesting that that's what we all think when a slugger suddenly stops slugging.

Its not just an 'off year' anymore.

Jun 22 2005 09:42 AM

It's a product of the times soup, it sucks but that's the way it is.

Edgy DC
Jun 22 2005 10:23 AM

Yeah, well, on one hand I feel dirty speculating.

I don't fear Thome so much as Burrell and Abreu even when he's the Thome we know.

Funny how when the Mets twice were unable to convert a good DP ball in the ninth, somebody in the group said, "This is interesting because it brings up Abreu, and that brings up the issue of 'ownage,' because that's what Abreu has on Looper -- 'ownage'."

I did some scratching. The data set is pretty small, but telling. Maybe we should be fearing Abreu more than Burrell in the ninth.

Jun 22 2005 10:46 PM

And I'm not shitting here but when Piazza had his second to last AB Bill Webb cut to Wagner in the Philly bullpen and I swear I saw him mouth to the guy next to him...fuck Piazza

Cooy I thought of your lament when Thome homered.

Can we get some consistency here?

Jesus. This team is easily good enough to lead the division.
