IGT - 6/23 - Mets at Phillies - Rubber Match

I'd say this is a Big Important Game.

Elster88
Jun 23 2005 01:12 PM

Reyes making it happen. Single, stolen base, to third on Cameron's fly out to center.

Why? If they win, they're a sucky team with no chance of making the playoffs who won a game. If they lose, they're a sucky team with no chance of making the playoffs who lost again.

Willie is confusing me, I thought Cameron was the new lead off hitter?

Edgy DC

Wright getting demoted again to seventh in the order related to his holding the ball?

Jun 23 2005 01:20 PM

Rollins grounded out to third.
Michaels singled to left.1 on 1 out,Abreu at the plate, he lines out to center.

1 inning in the books, the score is 0/0

Edgy DC
Jun 23 2005 01:48 PM

Jose Reyes just singled.

In that at-bat, he took two strikes, before fouling off three more. He let three balls go by, and (if you believe Gameday) swung at nothing out of the strike zone.

Small victories, anyhow.

OE: Steals second on pitch two.

I think I have a mild case of food poisoning. I should probably go home and
get some rest. Nothing worse than being stuck behind a desk when you don't
feel well.

Edgy DC

Mets get the early lead on an Arby Eye single by Cammie the Trade Bait.

Rotblatt
Jun 23 2005 01:52 PM

You should ask your company to spring for a car to take you home.

No reason to push it by taking the subway, you know?

KC
Jun 23 2005 01:53 PM

I'm in the burbs, I think I can focus enough on driving. I'll take it slow.

Floyd and Piazza single to begin the 4th, Anderson now interrupting the flow.

Frayed Knot

And Wright takes advantage of his plum lineup spot to drive in a run w/a single

Floyd Piazza, rally startin'.

Just the way I envisioned it.

I guess Lidle threw the ball into centerfield or something on that play? Tough to get the real picture from Sportsline. One hit away from breaking the game open a little bit.

Centerfield
Jun 23 2005 02:22 PM

Wait, we're allowed to get Burrell out?

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 23 2005 02:31 PM

Jim Thome, official Cheez Doodle Eater of the Phillies, homers off Ishii to make it 3-1.

Ishii has creatively limited lefties to no hits except home runs, it seems.

Edgy DC
Jun 23 2005 02:36 PM

New York Metskiewczes with no walks through five.

Frayed Knot
Jun 23 2005 02:42 PM

Ishii = Good (so far)

Rollins was just the first Phils batter to reach 2nd - aside from Thome that is who only reached it as he was jogging past.

The 6th coming up seems to have been his trouble inning lately.

metirish
Jun 23 2005 02:46 PM

Yeah Ishii seems to get rattled easily, hope that's not the case today, is Keith doing the game?

Edgy DC
Jun 23 2005 02:53 PM

Sixth passes with out incident. One big corn can.

I think KC really went home.

Frayed Knot

Burrell - Thome - Bell
Pop-out - Fly Out - Ground Out on 3 pitches

Not so shaky this time.

Top 7:
Mientkiewicz - HR
Ishii - GO
Reyes - 1B (3rd hit o the day)
Cammy - K (Reyes steals 2B)
Beltran - BB

and now the Phils will go to the pen specifically for Cliff Floyd nemesis Rheal Cormier (Cliff's like 1-for-80 against him or something).

Fran was calling Cormier "Frenchy" the other day - and while he is a Franch Canadian I have no idea if that's a real nickname or something Fran just invented.

We're gonna regret not scoring any of those 'tack-on' runs.

Now 4-3 as Bell allows an RBI-1B
Ring in to face Abreu

]Way to waste pitchers, Willie!

Willie played the pen just fine today IMHO. The buttons didn't always work correctly, but I thought he pushed them in just the right order.

* If he leaves Ishii in once he put a runner on in the 7th we'd be killing him for 'not learning his lesson' from Kaz's earlier bad innings -- so he brought in Bell to face the righty Michaels
* Once Bell gave up the single we'd have thrown Willie to the wolves if he left him in to face the lefty swinging Abreu -- so he went to Ring
* Then when R^3 walked Abreu, we'd have skewered him on a stick and stuck him in Dickshot's Chinese pig cooker if he left the LHP in to face Burrell -- so Willie did the logical thing and brought in the righty Roberto (excuse me, Mel II) for Pat the Bat
* Then left RH in to work the 8th, and Loopy for the 9th

I got no problems with any of that.

Rotblatt
Jun 23 2005 04:36 PM

No, you're totally right, Frayed. He kept them on a short leash tonight, and he probably should have. My post was a knee-jerk reaction, based partially on visions of Hernandez letting the tying run score and then going into extra innings . . .

Which actually would've been okay, as we'd still have had Graves, Loopy, Koo & Heilman available. Heilman sucked yesterday, but it was only 22 pitches, Koo 12 & Graves threw only 8.

It just felt like a lot of pitchers in a short span . . .

KC

OE: answering metsirish

It was. Chalk up another I can't remember the last time I saw that in a
game play. The funny thing was for me, I was re-entering the room where
the tv was and here's Hernandez fielding the high foul fly and Wright just
getting there and I'm like, "what the hell is wrong with Wright's head?" It
was on the heels of Wright ripping one down the line and then running to
first like he had a double only to find the ball beat him to first and was in-
deed picked. That was crazy enough. Of course, the Mets had that crazy
shift thing on which I didn't realize and great heads up by pitch.

Rotblatt
Jun 23 2005 04:47 PM

Gary was impressed by that play. Sounds like Wright sort of fucked up on it a bit, and Hernandez saved his ass.

Since the shift was on, it wouldn't have been an easy play for Wright, though.
