Quality first inning for Zambrano, whiffing Abreu looking and Thome swinging.

KC Jun 28 2005 08:13 PM |
Nice first two plate appearances by Reyes. On the first one he got Tejeda

Beltran doubles in Cammy, Floyd walks, Piazza K's, Marlon Anderberry (18)
|
KC Jun 28 2005 08:20 PM |
Wright K's, two left on (with no outs, I believe)
|
Johnny Dickshot Jun 28 2005 08:24 PM |
That turned out to be an awful inning. 1 more baserunner was the knockout punch for Tejada but he stayed on his feet to the bell.

Hernandez, after that RBI single makes two excellent points that Frannie seemingly would've missed: (1) Zambrano shook Piazza off twice before that RBI change; (2) Utley had no business not going to third.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 08:32 PM |
Why wasn't the infield fly rule called there?
|
Johnny Dickshot Jun 28 2005 08:35 PM |
Predictable response to that outburst, but at least Zamby limits the damage.
|
KC Jun 28 2005 08:38 PM |
Who is Dogback? I had my back turned on the play. F X, where are you?

KC Jun 28 2005 08:39 PM |
Mex just mocked Cahnfidence ...
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 08:39 PM |
Hernandez just busted on Frannie a bit for his overuse of cahnfidence.
|
Johnny Dickshot Jun 28 2005 08:45 PM |
Fran took it well.

Who was I disagreeing with that Zambrano was lucky last time out?

Wow! I thought he was cooked.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 09:07 PM |
Not that I don't think Zambrano's done, but I think he'll get dusted if he comes back to the plate.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 09:08 PM |
Excellent, Carlos.

No, I don't care who the Nets' first round draft choice was, thanks!

Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 09:20 PM |
This is wickit! Everybody hitting the ball hard in Thome's direction.
|
abogdan Jun 28 2005 09:21 PM |
Why'd they take Tejada out after only 4 innings? Not that I'm complaining now that Geary's given up 4 runs.
|
Johnny Dickshot Jun 28 2005 09:24 PM |
He'd thrown about 200 pitches in the first 4 innings.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 09:31 PM |
Heath Bell, givin' 'em Hell!
|
Nymr83 Jun 28 2005 09:34 PM |
Offerman (career .361 OBP) should be in the lineup as often as possible. and probably leading off if he still has the decent speed i remember from a few years ago.
|
KC Jun 28 2005 09:38 PM |
And six is six ... I forgot Offerman was on the Mets.

Piazza with the token inconsequential two run homer and Mets announcers
|
Nymr83 Jun 28 2005 09:45 PM |
|
Done. Why is Bell being pulled with an 8-1 lead?
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 09:47 PM |
I'll take all the inconsequential homers Piazza's got, as well as his consequential RBI single.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 09:52 PM |
I guess if Ring is going to be an effective lefty specialist by the end of this season, Willie wants to get him as many chances in the role now, particularly with a margin for era which encourages Ring to throw strikes -- which has been his main problem.

Danny Graves coming in.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 10:03 PM |
Sure. I just don't think you buy that there is anything to the idea that Piazza's clutch ability is failing relative to his general batting ability.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 10:05 PM |
David Bell sure pastes Graves' fastball onto something.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 10:07 PM |
Hard to think Mientkiewicz doesn't pick that errant throw by Wright. It had a long hop.
|
KC Jun 28 2005 10:10 PM |
Clutchness, disappointment ... I think I'll retire.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 10:15 PM |
Nah, you still have a few in the bat.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 10:17 PM |
Jason Michaels pulls a David Bell.

I think that's why Graves flipped the Reds fan, he insulted his Mom who is Vietnamese, has to be a strange trip for him ,you go from 41 saves last season to mop up duty with the Mets.

This turned out to be a good opportunity to play around with the pen -- the Phils looked totally defeated.

You are correct. I guess I didn't realize Graves was as old as he is. My bad.

Not applicable on a foul pop (assuming we're talking about the same play). When a pop like that is in the air - and all other conditions apply - the ump yells; "infield fly, IF FAIR". Think about it, the entire rationale for having the I.F.R. doesn't exist when the ball is foul.
It's not your imagination; Abreu is frequently indifferent in his outfield play.
|
Edgy DC Jun 28 2005 11:18 PM |
Well the ball did come down in fair territory, Daubach made the play.
|
Frayed Knot Jun 28 2005 11:24 PM |
Then we're talking about different plays. I was thinking of a 1st & 2nd situation where a foul pop was gloved by Wright. In that case the ump indicated the IFR but then didn't call it when the ball came down foul.

Bell had just driven in the first Philly run, with Utley going to second but inexplicably not going to third. While Keith is ripping him for this, Lieberthal hit one straight up the silo. Piazza camped under it, but while he was building a campfire, Daubach called him off and made the play.
