Willets and I discussed this. Please, in order to accomodate this and any other moves The Crane Pool Forum might make in the future, make sure any links you've created out there in the World Wide Web which point to the forum are updated. Rather than including the URL above, you should have all links pointing to http://www.cranepoolforum.net or http://www.cranepoolforum.com. These two URLs should always redirect to the Pool no matter where we move it, unless we're sleeping at the wheel.

In fact, you might as well make that URL your CPF bookmark, in case we bug out in the middle of the night.

And this is as good a time as any to suggest that peeps sponsor the page of their favorite Met player, manager or team at http://www.baseball-reference.com or http://thebaseballcube.com, with a link here. It's a good way to fish for Met fans with a sense of inquisitiveness. I just went over to bb-r.com to look at Stevie Henderson. As I was thinking that the Mets might have done well to try him as a leadoff batter, instead of futilely waiting for his rookie-year power to return, I noticed he wasn't sponsored.

"Pish-posh," I thought, "If I'm going to sponsor any Met from that era, it's going to be Doug Flynn."

So I check out Flynn's page. It's sponsored by Bill James.

Currently available at bb-r.com are all-time seventh-most-accomplished Met Howard Johnson ($30) and ninth-most Mike Piazza ($110).

I love bbr.com, I visit it almost everyday. I used to sponsor Bud Harrelson and
Wally Backman. I don't know if I got this right, but I got a little ticked off when
it came time to renew the price went up. Kinda like thanks for the 15 dollars
for Buds page but if you want it for another year it will cost ya twenty-five. Un-
sponsored pages remained inexpensive for the players of the same "level".

Anyone have any thoughts? Maybe I have it wrong and should have just re-
newed ... especially Bud. It sucks someone else has it now.

Well, kind of like ezboard, the price goes up with the number of hits the page gets. Price of popularity.

I was thinking if we could get an account under an assumed name like Johnny Lunchbucket or Pete Fornatele, and then we could all log in at different times and put a few dollars into the pot, until we could afford some high-profile pages like Piazza or the 1986 Mets.

My only fear is that I would log on as Fornatele and paypal some money in there, and the next Pooler who logs in would see my paypal login name info or Credit Card login name.

That stuff only autofills because of my desktop cookies, right, not because it would in any way be linked to the bb-r.com account which I'd be sharing with you all?

Maybe I should experiment.

Or a bunch of us could just pitch in at the next CPF event whenever that
is. Hmmmm.

At the risk of sounding disingenuous (I'm working on a spell check plug in
btw), I don't want know part of Piazza's page.

I just picked up future star Jeff Keppinger, $10 was a bit much I thought but that only heightens my expectations for him.

Edgy I like your idea, I'd chip in, it would be great to have some 86 Mets sponsored by us.

Joe Hietpas has not only been adopted, but he has also been sponsored :)

Well, you spelled "disingenuous" correctly but spit the bit on "no."

Anyhow, Piazza was just an example of a high-profile page. It would also be a page that drives traffic to the forum potentially.

You wouldn't have to get new Piazza-jamas or nothing.

Wally Backman got for the Crane Pool,Wally I hope someday you will get back in the game, hey Fred you brought Strawberry back into the mix , now would be a good time to show us Mets fans that you care about the past, give Wally a chance..

Well, one way to spin a Backman hire is that Fred cares about the past.

Another way would be that Fred doesn't care about domestic violence.

Yeah and Straws wife knows about that..anyway I suppose that was a silly thing on my part, you talked about getting 86 Mets, I got one, warts and all.

Yeah, well, I'm not really pushing that angle, just positing that it would come up. Wally's pretty untouchable right now.

Thanks though.

Edgy you are right, when I sponsored Backman I never even tought about his "problems", he was at a good price I thought because I had looked at Ron Darling but he's $25, great pitcher but I had spent enough today..

sponsor Ron here..
