Wild game in Florida

Marlins win it in the 13th - after trying to lose the thing about 10 different ways. - First, Florida scored 2 in the 8th to tie the game 4-4 that they'd been losing from the start, Leiter started, didn't last 5. - Then they blew scoring chances in almost every inning from the 9th on, including situations like: winning run on 3rd/no outs, etc, but could never push a run across. - Then Andruw (who else?) HRs in top 13 to give Los Bravos the lead - Then the Fish put the first 2 on in the bottom ... only to make the next 2 outs (Cabrera & Delgado) til it looked hopeless. - Then they get 2 consect RBI hits (LoDuca & Encarnacion) w/2 outs off Atlanta's [u:e4df7092a7]9th[/u:e4df7092a7] pitcher of the game (Benaro) to tie, then win the game.

WOW, crazy game, thanks for the update, last I heard a few minutes ago on the 20/20 was the Braves winning, crazy division.

We could definitiely handle Atlanta's ninth pitcher.

The box score is ridiculous. A total of 16 pitchers and 27 different people coming to the plate.

The Braves are carrying 13 pitchers right now? Try as I might, I just can't hate Julio Franco. I wish he was a Met. Julio Franco's first two appearances against the Mets came against Terry Leach, in his 10-inning one-hitter in 1982, and Scott Holman, who last threw a pitch in September 1983 and made his major league debut against Phil Garner, Don Robinson, and Omar Moreno.

Benaro - brought in to start the 13th - was Atlanta's last available pitcher. Florida meanwhile had burned all their available bench players. Somewhere in the middle of the game Raffy Furball went down w/what looked like a twised knee and was evetually pulled from the game. Julio Franco in June: .378/.455.784 OK so it's only in 37 ABs but still, the guy'll turn 47 soon. Andruw in June: 13 HRs -- something Aaron & Mathews never did for the Braves Wilson Betemit in June: .351/.388/.635 Once considered a top prospect, he's been spinning his wheels in the monors ever since and was starting to look like a bust Kelly Johnson - an IFer converted to OF called up out of AA - started his ML career 1-for-31. Since then he's 23/50 w/8 extra-base hits including 4 HRs. And that doesn't even include the near-rookie (Jorge Sosa) who beat Dontrelle the other night; the catcher (McCann) who filled in quite nicely (.348/.400/.478) when Estrada was injured; the prospects they've dealt in the last 2 years to get Drew, then Kolb (OK, so that one didn't work out so well), and then Hudson; or their best two position prospects: Jeff Francouer - who they've yet to call up; and Andy Marte - who was up briefly. It's like that team has a never-ending conveyer belt of talent that shows up and then performs well right out of the box just as they need it.
