Incomplete Guide to Who's Who on the CPF

Edited 20 time(s), most recently on Jan 25 2009 02:13 PM

With the recent move to the CPF's new home, many of the members adopted new names. It's hard to know who your "talking" to sometimes. So I devised this little cheat sheet in order to keep track of the members and their various personnas.

As the title of the thread indicates, this is far from a complete and comprehensive list. However it is the best that I could do with minimal research and my feeble memory. I hope that this list is helpful to others.

I invite members to add names that I may have overlooked or simply forgot over the years to this thread so that I can update the list..

There are some names that I believe are simply another personna of better known members (Purveyor of Pomposity !V and Bunt the First Two for instance). A few others that I do know the identity (Carnac the Metnificent and Fran X Healey) of, I have not divulged because I'm not sure that the member desires to have their identity known.

Once again, I encourage others to add to this thread so that I can update this post in order to make it more complete and accurate

I appreciate the feedback from everyone. I will update the original post as corrections and additions come in.

I kept drawing a blank on Willets name from the MOFO. I could only remember his less used tag in which he responded in French. Thanks for jarring my memory for Othemets.

Great to have you with us again Sandgnat. I immediately recognize old handles when people point them out to me, but I just couldn't come up with all of them on my own.

The missing MOFo name for Kasey is "Mezzman," but he used a lot of his CPF handles.

MFS62
Jun 21 2005 01:36 PM

Why is this such a hot issue?

Remember "be the ball, see the ball, hit the ball"?

Well, IMO, you see the post and respond to the post (or thread topic).

Why would someone have a different opinion about, or version of, a response depending on who they reply to?

I realize its nice to know, but wasn't this already the topic of another thread?

That said, nice job, Doc.

That, and we are elitist swine. It's in the original by-laws somewheres.

MFS62
Jun 21 2005 02:47 PM

And the basically good person in me meant that I really was curious about the answer.
Gnat's comment makes sense.

And the more that I think about it, some of the CPF-ers like numbers, others like to "see" a picture through words. It makes sense to know who you're replying to.
But we basically have our own styles.

Thanks,

Context aids clarity. Clarity aids understanding. Wisdom aids wisdom. Yadda.

I don't have much memory of the fella, but I don't think it's necessary to in-
timate that he was run out of town or anything. (if that's what you're intimating)

I've been posting on Mets' boards since late 1997. Except for a couple of ex-

Throwing myself in here, even though for the life of me I can't recall who I was on the MOFO all those years ago. =:(

I might have been SteveJRogers as thats my usual forum name (and real name) and the name that I used in my "return" to the MOFO after a 5 or so year "break" from the Internet Met Community (AKA World Series Disapointment Hangover)

When I came A-Board-ick to the CPF last year I think it was under SteveJRogers or a Met related handle like newyorkmetsbaseball

mlbaseballtalk was a changeover on CPF since I was hoping to start signing onto other EZBoard baseball forums (i.e. SoSH) but never really got around to it yet. That handle @aol.com is the address I use for this account so it would make things easy if I ever had to log in rather than something completely unrelated (like SteveJRogers)

This is from around the second page but made me crack up.

I originally was coming here because I noticed The Hot Corner was back, I hadn't known that was the alter-ego of an already present "new" CPFer.

The Hot Corner

Elster, I'm surprised the southern "accent" didn't give me away.

I generally post under my original name (Rockin' Doc) from the old MOFO days. I changed handles (to The Hot Corner) when I joined the CPF so long ago. When the CPF moved here, I decided to return to my original name, for reasons I still don't fathom.

I will update this thread to reflect now having 2 names here.

Im new.
I had come across ht e CPF when I was scouring the web for images for that baseball card set.
I looked around but moved on.
As time went on I found myself visiting places like the UMDB more and more. Mets By The Numbers,as well. Then I came across the CPF again and decided to join up.

Alot of it had to do with the fact I liked the direction the Mets have been going in and wanted to talk with other fans about them.
I think what made me decide to enjoy more time here was the game threads. It was really neat to interact with others watching the game while it was going on.
Ill never forget my 1st KABOOM!

I hadn't updated this for quite some time. cooby asked about Patrick McGowan in another thread today. As Frayed Knot mentioned, he has been MIA since just before the move from EZBoard. Nymr83 mentioned this long lost thread, so I decided to update it.

I added a new section to highlight our newest members that have joined us since moving here. We have been fortunate that our community of fans has continued to grow. I hope that I did not overlook anyone, but if I did, I sincerely apologize for the oversight.

As always, if there are any errors or corrections that need to be made, please either point them out to me in a post or PM me with the information and I will update the list on page one of the thread.

There's a new Pearl Jam album out next week and I always think of Slugger, who's to this day the biggest Pearl Jammer I've met yet, and turned me on to some cool PJ live stuff. I googled his handle and found a guy at a baseball sim site with the same handle and a Met uni for an avatar. Gotta be our guy. Wonder why he bolted?

Seo, I agree that it almost certainly has to be the same Sugger1138 that we knew on the MOFO and CPF. However, that link is to a forum discussion dated 4/25/2001. At least the forum is still active, so hopefully Slugger has remained there.

I wish you luck in finding Slugger. He was a great addition to the site and it is a shame that he never made the move to our new home.

Yeah, that was a pretty old thread. I registered anyway and shot him a PM. Hopefully he'll come around.

I edited the Who's Who list to include iramets now that his identity has been made official.

Kid Carsey has been added to the list of monikers used by KC, the sites chameleon.

Also, it is with pleasure that we welcome Slugger1138 back into the fold. He has been moved from the MIA list.

Great to have each of you with us, no matter what name you wish to use. See ya'll online.

Added John Cougar Lunchbucket to the list of aliases.

I think I need to move the Newbies to a more appropriate heading in the near future. Too lazy to do so tonight.

Edgy's new personna gets him an address change as he goes from the "Consistent and Stable" to the "Transformers". A rose by any other name...

I moved Gold Glove to the "MIA's".

Still trying to think of a more suitable name for the "Newbies". I'm open to suggestions, if any one actually cares.

It was nice to move Patrick McGoohan from the MIA list. Welcome Number 6.

I'm still open to any suggestions for renaming the Newbies category. Some of them are veterans now and the title of Newbie just doesn't seem appropriate anymore.

I know, I know......no one actually looks at this thread anymore.

How about "CPF Originals"?

Willets Point - 'How about "CPF Originals"?'

I like it! Give that man a Samuel Adams (or beer of his choice), which I will gladly do if you make it to the May 31st gathering at Shea.

Since this thread has become rather long, I decided to add the most updated listing here since many people may not think to look at the first post in order to find the list. I will keep the initial post updated as well.*

There are some names that I believe are simply another personna of better known members (Purveyor of Pomposity !V and Bunt the First Two for instance) as well as a few others that I do know the identity of but , I have not divulged because I'm not sure that the member desires to have their identity known.

Once again, I encourage others to add to this thread so that I can update this post in order to make it more complete and accurate.
