IGT 4-19-2006 Mets vs Braves Still April but important game

Lineups not up yet...

Frayed Knot
Apr 19 2006 12:23 PM

Met lineup:

Reyes - SS
Woodward - 2B
Delgado - 1B
Wright - 3B
Nady - RF
Castro - C
Valentin - LF
Chavez - CF
Glavine - P

Meanwhile, we can't complain too much as the Braves go with a ST/split squad looking IF

1B - Brian Jordan (LaRoche sitting w'the lefty Glavine going)
2B - I forget already (just heard it earlier) but Giles may have broken a finger sliding into 2nd last night
SS - Tony Pena Jr
3B - Betemit, moves to 3rd while Orr sits cuz of the lefty

Lets Go Mets, is that Tony Pena's son playing SS?

Not the same one that was too old for the LL World Series a few years back, surely?

Hence the 'Jr.' part

Edgy DC

Among Tony Pena, Yogi Berra, and Bob Boone, "Catchers who sired middle infielders is almost a big enough group to qualify for a Jeopardy category.

I have officially declared this the first Big Game™ of the 2006 season, meaning:

* Blown saves accrue at a rate of 1: 80 million

* Mike and the Mad Dog will interpret this game as indicative of Tom Glavine's entire Met career.

* The results of Jose Valentin's expected 4 PAs will determine his future employability (which may actually be true)

* Dramatic fan suicide watch code ticks Blue to Orange

Big Game

It is a big game. Despite our injuries, if we lose a series at home to THIS group of Braves, when we had Pedro and Glavine pitching two of the three, that would be a BAD thing.

I got to go to a seminar and miss the first hour or so of this one. Then I'll likely go to my lab (I don't know why I have full cable in my research lab, but I do) and watch this one on TBS. I hope to check with you guys from time to time. Enjoy the game!

Heh, just before the WFAN audio switched on for MLB's Internet radio broadcast just heard a phone call between engineers setting up the broadcast.

I believe the "Imortal Chris Mankowski" was describing the radio booth as a complete mess!

A Boy Named Seo

Hudson looks to have lots of bite on his breaking stuff. He's produced a lot of swings by guys who look like they were completely fooled.

Glavine looks very sharp, too.

The Mets as a group looking handsome in snow whites and blue caps.

Jordan bounced the throw into second that would've forced Castro out. E-3.

The flyball by Reyes was hit into medium left field. Diaz played it perfectly and caught it with his momentum moving towards home and gunned a strike on-the-fly to Pratt who caught it ahead of Castro and put the tag down. It was fairly close, but he was clearly out.

You know, with our good start, I thought I wouldn't be that bothered if we dropped 2 of 3.

But I was wrong. I feel like shit right now. I don't feel like playing softball tonight.

Can Diaz be recalled now? Or do the Mets have to wait 10 days? I thought it was 10 days.

Who do we want in the ninth? Franco?

Who's even on the bench and healthy?

Rotblatt
Apr 19 2006 02:58 PM

I think we should put Beltran on the DL. He'd only have to sit out for 11 days, and if it means not having to see Chavez, Valentin & Woody in the same lineup for even one game, it's worth it.

metirish
Apr 19 2006 02:58 PM

No to Franco I would think, to big a game, he hit the backstop while warming up when he pitched last night, wound a little tight I think.

Oh, come on. Join the pity party!

This game is CLEARLY an omen of things to come: peeps injured but taking up bench space; ballgames lost to bitter rivals due to errors by our marquee player; scrubs getting most of the playing time while better players languish in the minors, etc., etc., etc.

148 games later, we will look back to this game and say, "THIS is where the season turned."

Centerfield

For what it's worth, I was kind of encouraged by today's game, loss aside.

If Glavine pitches this well, we'll have a nice 1 and 2 going.

yep-errors kill.

So Hernandez goes on the 15 day DL.

I know they are calling Matsui up, but whats wrong with calling Diaz back (2 outfielders down) and stickin Woodward at 2nd?

Guess we are gonna have to give Kaz his seasonal shot at a position sooner or later.
Im thinkin later......

That was like the shortest game ever and you guys still managed to run the IGT up to 12 pages. Nice pitchers duel with a bad ending. The wind was blowing in something fierce so Andruw (sic) Jones really crushed that ball. Bah!

It wasn't boring. I love pitching duels. The main disappointment other than the loss was that the game went by so fast compared to the 9 hours of driving we did to get there and back.
