Trivia I'm not sure is right
Edgy DC Apr 17 2006 03:59 PM |
I think only one pitcher has won his 200th game while in a Mets uniform.
|
Yancy Street Gang Apr 17 2006 04:01 PM |
And who would that be?
|

I don't think Al got to 200.
|
metsmarathon Apr 17 2006 04:03 PM |
orel hershiser did, if that's who you're thinking of...
|
KC Apr 17 2006 04:05 PM |
Orel in '99, I don't know he's the only one though.

Seaver won it in 1977, after going to Cincinnati. He left with 189 wins and pounded out 14 more with the Red Machine that season.

Frank Viola came to the Mets with 112 wins, and when he left he had 150.

Similar numbers for Bret Saberhagen: Arrived with 110, left with 139, finished with 167.

Hershiser. I think I was at the game, although maybe not.
|
Edgy DC Apr 17 2006 04:18 PM |
Which brings us to the test to find out who got the closest without reaching.
|
Yancy Street Gang Apr 17 2006 04:21 PM |
Yes. I was hoping he'd get two wins in 1987!

I'm pretty sure Pedro did it
|
Yancy Street Gang Apr 18 2006 07:05 PM |
Gary Cohen just said that only three pitchers reached 200 wins with fewer losses than Pedro's 84. He didn't say who any of them were, though.
|
seawolf17 Apr 18 2006 07:10 PM |
One was Dan Carothers, who pitched a looooooooong time ago. I don't remember the other two.
|
MFS62 Apr 18 2006 07:38 PM |
IIRC one is Whitey Ford and the other Lefty Grove.

I do not know the complete answer to this one:
|
duan Apr 19 2006 06:43 AM |
eric valent, 2004 is the only one i know!
|

John Olerud did it (1997?), Kevin McReynolds did it in August 1989. Keith Hernandez did it in the 19-inning game in Atlanta in 1985. I want to say that Alex Ochoa did it too, but that might be wrong.
|
Johnny Dickshot Apr 19 2006 08:32 AM |
Can't forget Mike Phillips in 75 or 76.
|
86-Dreamer Apr 19 2006 08:49 AM |
Jim Hickman hit for the "natural cycle" in 1963, one of only 13 times that has been accomplished in MLB history.
|
ABG Apr 19 2006 08:52 AM |
Ochoa did it in 97 or so I believe.

What's surprising here is that the Mets have out-cycled their opponents 8 to 3.
|
Elster88 Apr 19 2006 08:56 AM |
Cheater.
|
Yancy Street Gang Apr 19 2006 09:01 AM |
What do you mean? I did that from memory!
|
mlbaseballtalk Apr 19 2006 09:10 AM |
Regular Reed Richards over there!
|
Yancy Street Gang Apr 19 2006 09:11 AM |
Piazza hit number 300, too. And I think Mo Vaughn did also.

Right about those, see what I told you about Yancy really being Reed!

Obviously the highest HR career total a Met has ever attained in a Met uni is Mays' # 660th and final HR of his career

George Foster hit his 300th at the beginning of the 1985 season. He also drove in his 1000th run in 1983 by beating out an apparent double-play grounder as Mookie Wilson scored the go-ahead run all the way from second.

If we're going all the way down to 100, let us not forget Jimmy Piersall. And Ed Kranepool.
|
Elster88 Apr 19 2006 01:35 PM |
Here's another for Yancy: What is the shortest nine-plus-inning game in Met history.
|
Yancy Street Gang Apr 19 2006 01:36 PM |
Don't know. I don't track game durations.
|
mlbaseballtalk Apr 19 2006 01:43 PM |
WOW! The Fantastic Mr. Reed Richards is FINALLY STUMPED!
|
metirish Apr 19 2006 01:47 PM |

Marvel Comics comic book superhero Member of the Fantastic Four http://ffplaza.com See Yancy's avatar, that guy is another one of them, The Thing Dr. Doom is theirs (and specifically Reed "Mr. Fantastic" Richards') mortal enemy Joker to their Batman if you will

I didn't realize you and Yancy were fighting! Cool!

Also part of the joke is that Reed is legitimately the smartest man in Marvel's "Universe" and The Thing is, well, not so much Hence, the creator of UMDB is really more like Reed, not The Thing
