Dammit. GNR wants to challenge up. Can't you people just challenge Prince or whoever is below GNR...and if you beat them challenge GNR the next time around?

sharpie
Apr 18 2006 09:15 AM

Clash has already beaten Prince. You can challenge up if by some travesty of justice you defeat the Clash.

Elster88
Apr 18 2006 09:17 AM

Yes, it is a travesty of justice when a much more talented band defeats a lesser band. Bring it on.

There's a pattern I'm noticing anytime Gunes en Rotses is involved in a challenge.

(mispelling intentional, Elster can smell it 1000 miles away and will swoop in to correct me and maybe post his 10 songs while he's here).

I know voting usually ends 48 hours after the second band puts up their songs, but that would be a weekend. How about we extend to Monday, at the time when the second band put up their songs.

--As Bob Murphy would say, “It’s Power vs. Power!” Edge to the Guns with a strong performance that made everyone stand up and take notice.

"Police On My Back" vs. "You Could Be Mine "

Them's fightin' words. Both "The Clash" and "London Calling" are two of the best albums EVER ("London Calling" winning the, I think, Rolling Stone Best Album of the '80's award even though it came out in late 1979). I got nothing against GNR, I've voted their way in some of these contests, but they got nothing on the Clash).

(on edit): Here's a good Jonathan Lethem piece on the Clash:

Everyone has their own favorites. Music is highly subjective.

sharpie
Apr 21 2006 11:32 AM

True dat. Just don't say the Clash reeks and you and I got no beef.

Vic Sage
Apr 21 2006 02:14 PM

yeah, as long as "the clash reeks" is purely an expression of your musical tastes, its a totally legit position.

its when that view is proferred as an objective evaluation that it becomes dubious.

Elster88
Apr 21 2006 02:25 PM

I've personally never smelled them.

I don't know how anyone could read "This band reeks" and think it was an objective statement. I thought it was obviously about my taste in music.

OTOH, "Guns N' Roses is the greatest band of all time" is obviously an objective statement. It's also a silly statement to make because everyone knows it.
